I’m not very curvy and it gives the illusion that I actually have a waist!
Maybe because they like them???
They are trendy. They can add emphasis to a waistline. They add a little sparkle to an otherwise plain dress.
Personally I see a lot of people who have already very textured or ornate dresses, and those are the ones I say “no” on the sash.
Ah! So sorry ladies! The rest of my post didn’t appear, only the subject! NOw I seem like a right cow passing judgement!
Anyway, I was saying that I would add a sash if I picked a plain dress, as this would be the statement of the dress. However, I see soooo many beautiful dresses that have beading, pleating, jeweling that I thing adding a sash detracts from the beauty of a really beautiful, expensive dress. Plus when you add full hair, make-up, veil. Sometimes I feel that it almost takes away rather than adds.
***that I think**
I agree. Some dresses need a little extra something, but for others they are better as is.
I added a sash to mine because it is really plain. No beading or lace, and like a PP said it creates the illusion of a smaller waist. I chose a red broached sash as a statement piece for the dress. The thing I loved most about my dress was also the thing that I liked least. It was very simple and I felt it needed a little something.
But, I have seen beautifully ornate dresses that included these bold sashes with HUGE flowers on them. Personally I am a simple girl, with a simple style and could NEVER pull it off.
I think a lot of people add them because it accentuates their shape and makes your waist look tiny.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the concept behind it completely. I have no issue with it in theory but not when the dress itself is beautiful without and the overall effect detracts from it. My dress is Pronovias Fina and it has a very plain top but a mermaid bottom with lots of ruffles. I plan on wearing a bird cage veil, necklace, drop earings and have very long hair that will be half up and curly. When I show people the picture some say- ‘Oh, and you could add a sash’ which makes me feel that they don’t think the dress is sufficient. What do you think Bees?! xxx
It is no different than extra ruffles, beading, lace, jewelry, bouquets. People like it.
nope, definitely dont think u need a sash!
