@SFreeman2187: I’ve notice a lot of them too and I wanted an empire (at first) so I know how you feel.

I ended up with a natural waist ball gown… it’s a corset style so it sucks everything in somehow lol

Yea I kinda feel like this too. I’m 5′ and have big ole hips that are just NOT flattering for a dropped waist gown. I’ve been getting some dress inspiration from the Knot… They have a pretty good filter on their site depending on the style you’re looking for.

I found LOTS of dresses that didn’t have a drop waist…(thank goodness, because I definitely have a tummy problem as well). I actually purchased a beautiful gown that didn’t have a drop waist, but in the end, actually OPTED for a drop waist gown!

I’m just going to get me some spanx and suck it up (literally).

But there are tons out there. Seriously. Good luck!

–> my non-drop waist first purchase:

(and it’s still for sale! 😛 )

I had the same problem.  Luckily I had a long engagement and the 2011 dresses had less dropped waists than the 2010 dresses.

Can you specifically ask them that you dont want drop waist dresses?  I’m not a fan of dropped waists either.. but there are many dresses with empire or natural waists

When I went dress shopping, I asked that they pull dresses with a natural waist.  There weren’t as many choices (at least where I shopped), but they are out there.

Funny – when I was looking (Feb/March), everything I was finding was not dropped waist, and I wanted the dropped waist. I only found a handful that had them at the places I went…

Belts are a big trend right now too, and they make your waist look extra tiny.  Gowns with corset-style boning are also flattering and popular right now–it doesn’t have to look like lingerie, just boning on the inside to keep the stomach and waist looking smooth and pretty.  Highly recommended if you’re short like me (you’re actually 2″ taller than me)!
