(Closed) Why does it seem like so many Bees are sending out invites 5-7 months before?

I think I’m going to send out my invites around the 3 months mark. This is because I’m having it at a Chinese restaurant. They want us to confirm tables a month before the date.

This is so weird. Why would anyone get annoyed at an early invite? How close are you to these people that an early invite is seen as an annoyance? Really? “I don’t know what I’ll be doing in three months” – does that translate to “I want to wait and see if I get a better offer” ? Surely if you get a wedding invite three months in advance and you have nothing planned, that’s what you’re doing? Going to a wedding? Sheesh I don’t understand this at all.

I was thinking of doing 5 months. send out in Nov for April wedding. Most of the guests will need to book hotels and organise transport and maybe book the day off work. Is that still too far in advance?

queenie88:  Seems a bit much. Are you doing Save the Dates? You can do those in a few months and invitations in January/February? I just did electronic Save the Dates too so it was free. We did that in August for late March wedding with invitations sent out after Christmas.

I sent my invites out in February for a July wedding. We did that because:

1. Didn’t want to do Save the Dates

2. We’re having two receptions in two different countries.

3. Some guests are from another city/country.

4. My friends are mostly teachers. We plan things in advance. So if I don’t tell them early enough, I worried that they’ll simply plan their vacations on the same weekend. (Which wasn’t a completely unfounded concern since both my bridesmaids had to stop their husbands from planning a July vacation.)

We just had our first reception last week and everything worked out. 🙂 I did have to contact a few late RSVPs, but otherwise the people we invited showed up.

I will prob send mine in May/June for an October wedding. People can respond whenever but I can’t imagine anyone being annoyed. It helps them plan. I love getting advanced notice because I know when I can take vacays, if I need to plan to fly somewhere, book hotels, etc. I live in a very popular and busy city so hotels are pricey and hard. I want to make it as easy as possible for my guests. We already have 4 weddings for next year plus ours so getting it out early is good too because we will be super busy in July and August.
