So, I’m looking at favors and gift for the bridal party. I’m just overwhelmed by how much the little stuff adds up! I never expected the cost of our wedding to skyrocket. I have a 1000 dollar cushion over our budget that I’m willing to part with, but the little stuff I forgot keeps coming and chipping away!

I feel you … my preliminary budget apparently wasn’t realistic!

Yup. We set our date two weeks ago and I’ve already had to up our budget projection $2,000. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

You can easily scratch the favors. They are a non-necessity.

Favors are no big deal. You can save yourself some money by skipping them and nobody will notice. TBH, I don’t know how many weddings I went to before I realized, “oh, we’re supposed to take this crap home?”

Yep. I added up our brunch reception cost, dress, and photographer (our big items) and thought “not bad!” But then the small things really DO add up… rings, gifts, accessories, hotel rooms, transportation, flowers, hair, makeup… and on and on. There’s a lot you don’t necessarily NEED, but still! Planning can be deceptive.

Yes, I can totally agree I believe Im 2500 over budget and DH doesnt know yet…..

This reason right here (not just favors but everything being expensive in general) is the reason we are scrapping the tradition wedding and going to vegas with 20-30 of our closest family and friends!!

you don’t need favors or gifts to the wedding party, most of that stuff gets thrown away anyway

Don’t forget the service fees, sales tax, and tips! Plus the cost of dinner for your vendors as well. There are so many added cost that nobody tells you about.

We’re $2000 over, but we were a little unrealistic to begin with for the amount of people we invited…fortunately we can easily afford it, but it does stink to have to spend so much!
I agree with some others who said to scratch the favors; no one needs them or misses them!

I don’t think you should scratch the favors! Even if you do something reallyyyy cheap, it’s something for guest.
But I agree… Everytime I look at my budget, I’m adding to it : ( Weddings are SO expensive!!

scratch the favors for sure!
i agree though, i’m struggling with how expensive everything is too and asking myself is it really worth it????

Are you doing a photobooth? Ours came with our photographer so that will double as our favors. Any wedding I’ve been to I forgot about the favors though. My brothers fell apart on the way back to Mexico. It was a chair candle thingy. We’ll be almost $10,000 over budget. We’ve asked ourselves many times if it is worth it, but at the end of the day it’s what we want and we still have more than enough saved for a down-payment on a house.

Ha right?!It’s crazy. We have settled with a budget $20k over what we initially were thinking (!!) things just add up so quickly for all the items we wanted. It’s mostly from taxes, we got a very good music group we weren’t initally going to have, we got a planner becuase we weren’t sure if we would have time to do everything ourselves, we got some kick-a** guest gifts, and we are paying for his family to fly to our wedding city (that alone is $4k). Goodbye 20k (face palm)…ah well, to us, it is worth it. we live on experiences rather than wanting a home, so we don’t have house payments and we both make great salaries. My parents are also helping to pay. to each her own.
