In the past week or two, she has started putting her paw in her food dish, and tipping it over so her food spills on the floor! Then…she walks away!! She’s not even trying to eat it. Oh, and when I try to clean it up, she comes over and lays on top of the food! !?!? She’s not perfectly trained, but she doesn’t usually act up like this. Any ideas!? Gr!

No answers but my dog does this as well. He started about six months ago. He does this EVERY time we feed him. He refuses to eat from the bowl.
It was weird at first but now we just think it’s funny. Just another of his many quirks.

What kind of bowl do you use?

We give my dog his food on paper plates (non-coated) on top of a rug. He has a wide mouth and it’s easier for him to eat off a flat surface.

@MrsSl82be: I would look into the bowl type as well

My thought is, maybe there is a smell or taste to the bowl that the dog doesn’t like. So, maybe try a different bowl or put it on a plate and see what she does then

Either she doesn’t like the food or its an issue with the bowl. My puppy did that with the freaking water bowl! She would stick her face in it, then her paw, knock it over, lay in the water and then take the bowl onto the carpet and chew on the bowl. (the floor has never been so clean and the carpet so wet lol). But she was teething so that is why she did that. Eventually it stopped.
Try a different bowl, clean the bowl or try new food. See if that helps.

@SuperKate: I wouldn’t care if she ate it, but she just leaves it and will go hungry cuz there’s no food in her bowl.
Right now it’s just a plastic “mixing bowl” from the kitchen because I lost hers in our move a couple months ago (and just haven’t started using them again), but maybe there is a smell she doesn’t like. Thanks for the hint! I’ll give that a try!
