I don’t think you HAVE to use a MUA if you don’t want or can’t afford, but regardless of how good you are at doing makeup, the MUA will do a better job. Don’t forget that you’re going to want this makeup to last, and look amazing for a full day and night. You’ll be getting lots of professional photos and lots of candid shots as well. MUAs know not only how to make your makeup last through the day/night but also the best products to use to minimise shine, and to stop you looking washed out in photos.

Also, as PPs have mentioned, there is that ‘pamper’ factor. The morning of your wedding you are likely going to be stressed out trying to organise everything. Having a MUA come in forces you to sit and relax for 45mins while someone else worries about helping you look good!

Like others have said, pamper factor, not being comfortable with doing your own makeup, not knowing how to do it so it will photograph well etc. I will be doing my own makeup unless someone gifts me with a MUA because well, it’s cheaper, IMO easier because I’ve been doing it myself for years so I know what I like and what looks good on me and how I want it done, and I have experience with everything from everyday makeup to stage makeup to photoshoot makeup (the fun of having photographer friends lol). I think there’s pros and cons for each.
