Àlright the first to admit that I think I’m always right & I often have trouble dropping an argument: The only thing that stops me here is the fear of getting BANNED!
So I was reading this article about a month ago in the NY times that discussed the way people (humans) have evolved to argue has more to dominance than reaching a logical conclusion. In other words, we argue for the sake of being superior regardless of if our point is factually sound.
I think Cracked, com puts it best.
Anyway, it gave me lots of insight & seeing as this is a place where opinions tend to clash, I thought it would be appropriate to share 😉

@MrsRugbee: OMG thanks for posting that! Also, totally agree with you because I am way more diplomatic on here than I am in real life because I like it here and want to stay.

I always bite my tongue when I’m on here because people get pissed off when you have your own opinion and/or you don’t agree with them. I could’ve really spoke what was on my mind regarding Valentine’s Day posts yesterday, but only said something once. I speak my mind a ton more in real life. It’s just who I am.
Plus I’m also very sarcastic in real life too. Many people don’t take too kindly to that on here as well.

@MrsRugbee: If I get stuck on cracked.com for the next hour and half, it’s all on you. Ha!
I feel that I bite my tongue on here A LOT as well. There are a lot of threads I just read/skim, and then close. I enjoy being on here too much to get banned and besides, I don’t want to turn into this guy:

@Juliepants: You should know that’s a picture of me

@andilene: Lol, and when I said, “I don’t want to turn into this guy”, I may have left off the word, “again”. 😛

I completely love it, it made me laugh so hard! I’m the same way though–I’m way nicer and less sarcastic on here than in real life. In fact….let me just copy and paste a FB status from a few weeks ago: If you are looking for false hope & BS I’m not your person, but if you are looking for honesty in a slightly bitchy manner please, I’m all ears.

@Juliepants: Agreed. I disagree with people on the bee pretty frequently but I mostly hold my tongue when someone is either a) trying to call me out on something that is total BS b) when its already a drama thread and I have no additional insight to add to a post.

Haha. Honestly guys, it takes A LOT more than getting into a few heated debates to get yourself banned around here. Heck, I’ve definitely gotten into more than my fair share myself and I am super outspoken and sarcastic. The BanHammer is more of a decoration over the proverbial WeddingBee fireplace.
As for the article… so true. Darling Husband and I regularly get into “debates” about things. We got into a debate about politics tonight and spent 2 hours arguing. lol. I think that there is a difference between debating an issue with someone and being disrespectful and snarky. I am all about speaking my mind but I try to do it in a tactful way.

@zippylef: Ah, that’s good to know about the “BanHammer”. I honestly think I joined like the day MT was banned so I’ve always been like, “I’d better watch it!” haha.

My Fiance is one of those like in the picture.. lol I don’t think I am one of those people. Hahaha. Sometimes maybe. 🙂 But I guess, I like Weddingbee alot too, and I love visting the Hive at work. I almost work with 99% boys (IT Nerds) , and it’s more drama there than on this site. Gossip as well. LMAO!

Oh yeah? Well I don’t think that we’re “programmed” to disagree to get dominance. How can you say it’s evolution when clearly evolution isn’t real? That’s such a ridiculous assertion…it’s not like I’d just argue for the sake of arguing, that’d be so crazy, I don’t NEED to be right, I’m just right.
I’m just kidding, it makes a lot of sense. The first time I read that article I was like, “Yes, I knew that reading Cracked every single day wasn’t lame, see what I learned!” My Fiance just rolled his eyes.

people who love to debate: I have several friends who are like this. sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s exhausting.
@HappierKate: OMG, you literally just took the joke right out of my mouth!! I was just about to start in on the evolution debate. ha.

@HappierKate: ahh!! You got me! The whole 1st line I was frowning & then I got to the punch line! You`re a funny lady
@janie-janie: That actually reminds me: I was trying to explain this theory to someone in my law section. I used the example of creationists but she wasn’t familiar with them so I gave her a brief jist of what creationists are… That conversation degenerated into me trying to explain to her why she couldn’t POSSIBLY be a creationist… Conversations I never expected to have in law school!
