Yup.  I loved the name Isabella for years and then Twilight had to go and ruin it.

@sailor:  Isabella was already getting popular before Twilight too so the situation jsut got compounded. About 7 years ago, my ex-husband’s borther (at the time ex and I were married) named his daughter Sofia Isabella and everyone was already talking about how both names were regrettably already really popular.

I have a friend with a 3 year old son named Atticus, but he is the only one I know of, I think you’re still safe there! I say name your kids whatever you love, if a bunch of other people have the same name for their kids – who cares?  My name has never been SUPER popular, but I went to school with about 4 other Erica’s in a class of about 400. I never felt like it took anything away from my name or how I felt about it.

I’ve lost count of how many Emilys, Megans, Katies, Mikes, Matts and Nicks I’ve met. Seriously lost count. I know they’re not uncommon names but Jesus people, can we use other names now please?

@strawbs:  Most of those names aren’t that popular right now for babies.

Don’t worry too much. I grew up as a Katie in classrooms filled with Katies. Somehow we all survived it and I still love my name 🙂

(also, my parents were originally going to name me Amanda, but changed their minds because it was ‘too popular’ and went with Katie instead right at the start of the wave when that name took off…so, whatever you pick, it could end up being uber-popular anyway lol)

@Miss Lyre:  That’s funny! My new coworker has a 3 year old named Atticus, AND my fiance’s boss has a two year old named Atticus. Both of them call the boys Atty as a nickname. Must be getting popular fast!

I have heard of two other Roxanne in my whole entire life, and that’s almost 50 years… Just 2!!! One was in grade 7-8 and then she moved away, and the other one is my next door neighbour’s daughter. I say you name your children what you want and they probably won’t see another one in their lifetime… you never know!

@mrsSonthebeach:  probably because they’re too @#$%ing common now because of 20 years ago.

@strawbs:  Yup. Popualrity of names comes and goes in waves. There are very few people in their 20s and 30s names Sophia/Sofia, but they are a dime a dozen among toddlers and babies. A decade ago, it was Madison and McKenzie (and the thousand varieties of their spellings), and a decade before my generation, it was Jennifer.

I’ve only heard the name that I want to use one time, and it was the name of a character in a movie, so I have never actually ever heard of anyone having it in real life! But if it makes you feel better I have never in my life heard the name Silas before.
