It will probably be in the middle; it won't scream "thin band" OR "thick band". : (45 votes)

No, on a 4 size finger that will not be considered "dainty". : (8 votes)

2mm is plenty thin. It will still look ‘dainty’.

I would not go less than a 2mm for any ring you want to last a lifetime. Definitely not if you plan to have any pave in it. With a plain band you might be able to go down to 1.8mm, but that is still on thin side.

My engagement band is 2mm… together with my 3mm wedding band they make up the same thickness as DH’s wedding band.
Never thought it looked particularly thin or thick…

naturelovebee :  Actually, rose gold won’t be as prone to warping as platinum would be. Platinum is *stronger,* but it’s also *softer.* Rose gold will hold its shape better, but it’s more brittle, so prong may snap off (instead of bending like plat would.)

What you DO need to consider, though, is that when you polish rose gold, you actually lose weight. So, over a LONG period of time, if you like to keep your rings shiny and polished, you will lose some width in the shank, especially underneath. Plat does not have the same problem – polishing it just moves it around, doesn’t subtract it.

Yes it will look thin. Don’t go below 2mm… every bench jewelry class I have ever taken the master goldsmith instructors have insisted upon this. Jewelers will make them ultra thin to meet demand but it’s not advisable for an heirloom everyday wear ring.

I’ve always heard NOT to go below 2mm; that’s the thinnest a band should be. Here is my 2mm solitaire/pave band.

naturelovebee :  Yes it still looks dainty. When you hit the 3mm it looks rather large. I have short small hands and a 3 was too large.
