If I was a meat eater, I’d find this just fine.  Sometimes people who made mediocre food try to make up for it in quantity.  I don’t need food to be falling off the plate…but I imagine some people prefer quantity over quality.  Maybe poll your family a bit?

I don’t eat meat, but that seems reasonable? Are you having a formal starter or is it just canapes? Would it be cheaper to add a soup/salad course instead of more meat?

I think those quantities seems perfectly fine (and yummy).

Plated dinners at weddings aren’t very common where I’m from (usually we have buffet- or family-style), but this seeems reasonable for a plated dinner. Most people don’t expect to eat until they feel sick at a wedding anyway, and to me the amount of meat on the plate would be plenty if I were a guest at a wedding!

A serving of meat is about 3 oz.  You are serving your guests more than twice that amount!  You’re serving them plenty.

You’re giving them half a pound of meat, if they go home hungry, that’s their problem! You have what sounds to be a lovely selection of food and the quantity you have listed sounds perfect.

Anyone who is not a vegetarian/vegan will have plenty to eat at that meal. Appetizers, 2 veggies, a starch and 2 meats… that’s balanced and more than sufficient.

If you have veg friends, I’d suggest offering a non-meat entree option for them. Pasta, maybe?

8 oz! Wow, that seems like MORE than enough, especially since your appetizers at cocktail hour seem really nice, and they are getting veggies and potatoes. Plus, guests don’t want to be totally stuffed; they want to dance and mingle!

I’d say you’re probably going to have a decent amount of plates with food still on them at the end of the night, honestly. 3 oz of beef is the perfect serving, but 5 oz of chicken? Wow, I would probably cut it down to 3 if I could.

I think it depends on the portions of everything. I went to one wedding where had steak medallions but also just two tiny potatoes and a handful of string beans. The presentation was pretty but everyone was left hungry. So I think you also should consider he portion of sides that guests will receive.

@kerensa:  Completely agree with the side portions.

OP: I do think your guests will have enough to eat. Between the cocktail hour and meal they definately won’t starve.
