Ladies, I am in desperate need of a haircut. I’ve had the same hairstyle for years. It’s pretty unexciting – long, straight, brown (although today I tried to make it a little wavy, with minimal success).
This is the haicut I’ve loved for a few years now, but I’ve been too chicken to go for it. Should I get bangs? Or would that look ridiculous on me?
Reese, with the best haircut ever:
And me, with my boring mouse-brown hair:
Any comments, or other suggestions would be great! I don’t look good with short hair, I’ve tried it before. Thoughts?

I like it! I think the bangs will make your big blue eyes pop!

I don’t have bangs.. BUT I do remember growing them out in ELEMENTARY school… if something was enough of a pain in a but that I remember it YEARS and YEARS later then it must have been awful. So if you go for bang you gotta beware that if you don’t like them… they’re going to be a pain growing out.
But I do think bangs would look great on you 😀

Yes, get bangs. I could see somewhat shorter bangs than what Reese has working well for you.

I’m a hairstylist and honestly those bangs would look amazing on your face! I say go for it!!!

You said you didn’t want to go short, but would you consider going about 4 inches shorter?

I think you should go for it! I think bangs would be cute on you, and if not its just hair it will grow. You could always do them a little longer and more side swept first to see if you like them aesthetically and commitment wise. They will need to be styled, so if you’re very low maintenance (I hate styling bangs) that’s something to consider. But purely from the look, I think it would be cute!

I think is cut would be cute also!

I definitely think that hairstyle would be CUTE on you! but I do have one little bit of warning: depending on your hair type, you’ll probably have to spend time styling it. it’s rarely a wash-and go, or roll-out-of-bed-and-pull-your-hair-back type of style.
every time I got bangs, I loved it for a month, and then hated the hassle and spent a year growing them back out again. I found them surprisingly hard to get just right.
if you are seeking a change, what about highlights, a new haircolor, or maybe a different type of long haircut? (like layers or kaylee26’s suggestion of just 4″ off?)

Oh I think it would look fab. You’ll need the right product and styling tools and your set. I do think however you should look at going a little shorter aswell.

You should definitely do it! You have the face for it!

Thanks for the input everyone! You’re making me more confident that it might actually work for me 🙂
@Woodstock: Yeah I had blunt bangs when I was little and I definitely remember it taking FOREVER to grow them out. But now I own heaps of bobby pins so I’ll be able to at least pin them back if they’re driving me crazy.
@kaylee26: Eesh, I’m not sure I’d cut 4″ off. I was thinking maybe 1-2″. I definitely like my hair longer, I feel like it works better on my frame (I’m 5’10” and short hair makes me look odd because my head is kind of tiny for my body)
@BlondeMissMolly: I can’t see the pic you posted 🙁 I figured it’d take a bit longer to style them, but I have to somewhat style my hair for work everday anyway or else it looks like I’m going to the gym.

you should totally get this haircut. i think your face shape will suit this cut. imo, it’s hair, it will grow back if you don’t like it.

I think you’d look super cute! Definitely go for it!
To help ease your mind (since I know a dramatically different cut can sometimes be a little frightening): I’ve had side-swept bangs for years, but I tried blunt bangs about a year ago. They looked TERRIBLE on me, but I promise that growing them out was not traumatic at all. I only had to let them grow out for, like, two weeks before I could start sweeping them off to the side and hairspraying them into place. Then they grew a little more and my stylist could just start blending them into my layers like usual. So if you do go for it, and you hate it, it should only be a little while before you start looking more like “yourself” again.
Also, if you haven’t had bangs ever or it’s been a long time, I think the best way to ease into it is to have your stylist add more layers to your hair so that the whole hair has a lot of body and movement. Then the bangs look a little more natural and more blended into the whole hairstyle. But that’s just my suggestion, and I’m totally not a hairstylist!
Definitely post pictures if you do it! I want to see how it turns out!!
