Although my original e, et and wedding rings are diamond, I got a new set for my combined 40th bday/10th wedding anniversary and chose a tanzanite centre stone as I could not choose between a sapphire or an amethyst. I love the warm shine and sparkle a coloured gemstone gives compared to the ‘cold’ glint from diamonds. All of your rings are beautiful.

I think colored rings are gorgeous. Do you like your birthstone? That could be a nice personal way to make sure you won’t have any regrets 🙂

@rubybride718: too funny! it appears we’re pretty close in personalities! I wear a lot of jewel tones and black as well. my husband says it’s because of my “artistic” nature that I have a flair for the dramatic! ha ha!
To the OP- I say go for what you want. It’s your ring, it’s your taste and it will be something that symbolizes the love between you and your intended. If you want a colored stone- go for it!
I was thrilled I received a ruby engagement ring because I have a July birthday and everything I have read about rubies is spot on with my personality. I follow a lot of Hindu and Buddhist practices and they’re revered as passionate and sacred stones. My husband is also a romantic and wanted me to have a reminder of his love.
I wouldn’t trade it for the world honestly.

@stardustintheeyes: Did you ever post a picture of your topaz? I have one too! I would love to see yours!

@stardustintheeyes: I never wanted a diamond either they are beautiful but to me they are boring.
I always knew i wanted a coloured stone all the ones i pointed out to my Fiance were all black diamonds/sapphires, rubies, blue sapphires.
I have small hands too so i didn’t want something big. My fi chose my ring himself and he got it spot on i love it.
It’s blue diamond but it looks purple.

Sometimes I wish I got a colored gemstone!

I have a yellow sapphire and I know I’ll never regret it. I just love color and knew I didn’t want a diamond ever since I was a little girl (about the only weddingish thing I knew!). My recommendation for colored stones is to go with a sapphire, emerald, or ruby. They are almost as hard as a diamond and most jewelry stores will give them the same warranties. Other stones are soft and bound to chip so they don’t give warranties. For me, I wanted to wear my engagement ring everyday and wanted something that would last.

I didn’t want a diamond either, and love colored gemstones. I seriously doubt I will regret it, it’s the most beautiful piece of jewelry I’ve ever had!

@stardustintheeyes: I just found this thread, and congrats on getting engaged! Your ring is drool-worthy! I have always been partial to blue coloured gemstones. They are breath-taking, in my opinion!

I love mine. I picked the stones. Vivid blue, untreated Ceylon sapphires. I think diamonds are too common. I designed the ring as well. No regrets. Been wearing it for over 8 months.

I have a yellow sapphire. Ever since I was a kid I wanted a colored stone because I love color and thought diamonds were boring. The diamond market has further lost my interest in them. However, before I got my ring I had never seen a yellow sapphire and almost told my fiancé to get a diamond last minute because I have seen a diamond and love my setting! Now that I have my ring and have seen so many that would have been similar with the diamond I would have really regretted getting a diamond. I chose the yellow stone because it is my favorite color and I liked that it was still a light color- that just seemed more like an engagement ring to me
