@oceanstarship:  That sapphire colour looks really pretty; I’d contact them to ask about videos in different light conditions and also check the return policy.

Yes I think you will regret getting that ring from Helzberg, both because it won’t look like it does now for very long and because the setting isn’t really what you want. You absolutely can find a sapphire in the same shade, I’d be looking for lab grown corundum (that’s sapphire), or a jeweller who can source that for you.

Years ago (like 9 or 10 years back) I ordered a sample of lab gems from this company: http://www.syntheticgems.org, they’re still around so maybe that’s somewhere for you to start? They sent me about 30 gems, half of them sapphire half spinel, in every colour.

The ones on hand are sapphires. I never got them tested (decided to go with moissanite in the end) so I can’t vouch for their authenticity but I think they are legit.

@oceanstarship:  So I ended up doing a more thorough search and I wonder if these are more of what you are looking for. They may be smaller/bigger than what you are looking for.

I also found this site, I feel like the stone you are looking at now looks close to their Blue Sapphire Color 2:

There is also this custom lapidiary–I’ve bought a moissanite from Phil in the past. I would be able to source a sapphire in the colors you are looking for:

I have a Swiss blue topaz engagement ring (so similar colour and similar hardness on the Moh’s scale). I have worn it daily for five years and it’s held up just fine. There are no scratches that I can see. It does get dirty but not really quickly and a quick clean makes it sparkle again. I clean it maybe once every 6 week or something.

This is my ring (just to show that the setting isn’t particularly protective).

@oceanstarship:  Congrats bee! the ring is beautiful, can’t wait to see it on your hand! I also have a beryl (emerald) and while I might need to clean it a bit more often, it looks just as beautiful as the day I got it so it isn’t glass that will just shatter on you. The insurance is a brilliant piece of mind though

@oceanstarship:  congrats, you can always get a new stone when that one isn’t nice anymore and replace pretty cheap so not a big deal. Glad you got the ring. Can’t wait to see on you .
