Hi all, new bee, with a potential crisis already. I picked my dress, Sottero & Midgley Adorae Louise, and I’ve already paid the deposit.
Then I started reading WB and saw a lot of references to street size vs. wedding dress size which I didn’t know about…the bridal shop ordered my dress in a 6 (I tried on an 8 and it was a little loose in the waist in particular.) which is my normal street size.
Then I looked up the size chart online and my hips are much bigger than the size on the chart! Is the dress going to fit at all??? The waist and chest measurements were OK.
(Adorae Louise pic below…it is definitely fitted through the hip!)
If it doesn’t fit, what happens? Help!

Didn’t they measure you before you ordered the dress? I thought most bridal stores will make you sign a waiver if you want a different size than they recommend… I’m sure if they thought a size 6 was good it will all work out.
Its possible to let a dress out. Not as easy as taking it in, but not impossible 🙂 don’t stress.

Thanks @Miss Root…I’m hoping letting it out is an option!
They did measure me and then said, “We’ll order a 6.” but in the paperwork I signed it says, “Customer is responsible for ordering the correct size/color.” so now I’m extra-worried. I assumed they would know what size I should get since they were the pros!
Guess I can’t do anything until the dress comes in sometime in the next 4 months and hope it fits. I suppose I could also see if it’s possible to lose 4″ off my hips… 🙂

@bunny_girl: My street size and wedding dress size were the same. I feel like if they measured you it should be ok. I was told when I got mine that if it needed to be taken out slightly they are able to do that usually.
I really hope there are no issues for you!

That’s a beautiful gown!
but I agree with other posters, they should have measured you. I hope it works out for you!

It depends on the designer… my street size is a 6/8, my dress from Alfred Angelo fits at a size 4.

i think you should be okay if they measured you. they should have measured your bust, waist, and hips and ordered the largest size you measured. some dresses, the hip measurements doesn’t matter but for this dress, it’s fitted through the hips so the hip measurement does matter. even if your hips are off by an inch or two, most wedding dresses have a seam allowance to take it out a bit (although it’s probably easier to take a dress in than it is to take it out).
as for street size vs wedding dress size, it really varies from designer to designer. some designers sizing is closer to street sizing. look at a few different size charts for the various designers and you will see.

@bunny_girl: how did it go? Did it fit perfectly?

I find that these dresses need to be tight, but that’s fine because they’re all boned and designed to squish you in in the right places!
