califlorican:  Word of mouth mostly. I have a website and a bridal party, but a lot of people just asked my parents and my parents told them.

Our wedding is at the end of the month and so far there’s been 9 things purchased, out of like 120 items haha. I spent a long time putting toegther a registry with lots of different useful items at all price points because people kept asking about a registry. Only a couple people used it for our showers. We did however receive a ton of gift cards, which is great for us doing lots of home renos.

In Canada almost everyone registers at The Bay, and our guests could order online so it was really easy for everyone! We got almost everything off our registry and then some! Probably half the guests gave gift cards or cash so in the end we got to buy things we didn’t get from our registry or that we thought of later (i.e. espresso maker, Dyson vacuum, a few place settings).

I think if it’s convenient (either location or online) then people will almost certainly get you things off your registry. Our parents were huge in spreading the word, and we also posted it on our wedding website which we gave out in the e-mail Save The Dates we sent. Guests will likely ask your parents yourselves where you registered. Also the older generation typically prefers to give gifts rather than cash.. at least among our family and friends!

califlorican:  Are you having a bridal shower? If yes, you absolutely need to add more items to the list. That is where ALL of my bridal shower gifts came from.

At the wedding, we received one gift (everything else was cash/checks) that wasn’t from the registry – crystal candlesticks (ugh, lol).

People can EASILY google your names and find your registry.

califlorican:  We got a ton of items off of the registry, a couple of custom-made pottery pieces that weren’t on the registry, and the rest were cash/checks from people. Most of my husband’s family are cash/check givers and most of mine are gift givers.

I think it all depends on your guests. We registered at two different places and we ended up getting almost everything. My best friend got married last year and I think only about 5 people purchased from her registry. If you’re planning on having a bridal shower, I would suggest putting more items on there so people know what to get you and you don’t end up with a bunch of crap you don’t want. When we registered, the lady at the store told us we needed 3 items per guest invited to the wedding and we looked at her like she was crazy lol I think in total we had maybe 100 items on our registry?

califlorican:  My husband and I eloped so did not have a registry. But as a guest, I can say I always buy from the couple’s registry.

califlorican:  I had a bridal shower and everyone but 2 people used the registry. We included the info on our wedding website (we gave the link to our website on our save the dates). Family members also knew about the registry through word of mouth. Also a lot of people were asking where we were registered way before we even made a registry. So I did feel a little pressure ro make one as soon as I could.

Google your names and see if your registry pops up. If I don’t have registry info for a couple I just search for their names and have always been able to find their registry. As long as you are registed at a ‘typical’ store you should be fine.

As a guest I buy from the registry for the shower and typically give money for the wedding. We received a few items off the registry but most gifts were from the registry.

We have had four people use our registry so far (wedding is the 17th, so it might be more by the wedding day but I doubt it to be honest) and two of those people were our mom’s (my mom and FI’s mom) for my bridal shower.
