From what it looks like, the model IN the dress has broad shoulders. I think it’ll look great.

I hope not, my dress is strapless and I have broad shoulders!

I think that dress is awesome and would be flattering 🙂

I think it will look great! One of my ‘maids has broad shoulders – while I picked a color and the girls could pick a style for their dresses, she actually wanted strapless because she has the shoulders to pull it off – she looks totally fantastic in strapless!

@Ms.Teddy: Could you offer her the option of a color coordinates shawl to wear after the ceremony? That way she could cover her shoulders for the reception if she’s uncomfortable.

Since this site is anonymous, I will say that I went to a wedding recently where the bride who is actually model-gorgeous and rail thin wore a strapless gown and looked like a football player b/c her shoulders are so broad and she is so tall. It was actually a super unflattering style for her and I was shocked that she chose it. It didn’t help that she also wore her hair up in a plastered updo, it looked like she was all shoulders and no head.

But I think your Bridesmaid or Best Man should try the dress on first before you make a determination. Every body is different and you never know!

I agree with moderndaisy. She absolutely has to try it on first. I’ve seen strapless dresses look okay on broad-shouldered girls, but I’ve also seen some that look positively awful. It’s all about proportion. Generally, it’s best to have some sort of a strap to break up all the space.

I think it would look ok but she should try it on. I wonder if shes more worried about the low back and saying its her shoulders

I think halter styles make broad sholders look even more broad.  Can you actually try on different styles with your Bridesmaid or Best Man to make the best choice?

Oh yes, it will work. I have broad shoulders myself and…well, take a look:

Have her try it on and make sure she is comfortable with how she looks in it. I think the way the dress sits fairly low and the sash brings the eyes downward creates a LOT of space above the chest and if she is broad shouldered and muscular it will probably emphasize it.

It sounds like she is self-conscious about that and doesn’t want to be walking around in a dress that makes her look super jacked.  When I wore a strapless bridesmaid dress recently, it DEFINITELY emphasized my shoulder and upper arm muscles, which I was OK with, but other women might not be.
