@KLB264:  I just booked my honeymoon for Sandals Grande in St. Lucia for July.  We booked through a travel agent.  I don’t believe that she saved us any money, but booking with a travel agency gives you a “go to” person in case problems arise during your honeymoon (if you miss a connecting flight or you receive a room that you didn’t reserve).  One perk that I noticed when booking through the travel agent is that she was able to book us a room on the top floor (which we wanted) b/c she spoke directly with a sandals agent that has a friend who works at the Grande and this personal connection helped us!

She didn’t save me any money at the actual booking, but she HAS been able to save me money since. If the price goes down at any time before you pay off the balance, they will get the price adjusted for you – no questions asked. I couldn’t find that guarantee anywhere on the website, although it may exist. I’ve used it twice and saved over $500 plus got a room upgrade.

I also think the TA has brought a ton of value to us. She helped us narrow down which resort we should go to based on our preferences, walked us through all the crazy Sandals levels of rooms and service, did all the paperwork to book our airfare and then got them to fix it when they spelled my middle name wrong. It was SWEET. And it didn’t cost me a single penny.

My understanding is that clients of TAs also tend to get the best upgrades, if there are any available. The TAs are a marketing arm of the resorts and the resorts want to keep them (and their clients) happy because they are the ones most likely to send repeat business if they have a good experience.

LOVE my TA. I’m working with Patty at Totem Travel. I couldn’t be happier. I have no affiliation and don’t get a thing if you use them. I just interviewed two different TAs and she was heads and shoulders above the other agency. She is awesome.

I really see no upside to booking on your own when going to an All-Inclusive. I did a bunch of research and I’m a deal hunter – and it still made sense for me to use them.

We’re going to Sandals Royal Carribbean and staying in the Romeo & Juliet Honeymoon suite (on the 2nd floor with a private stairway that goes down to the pool), with butler service. It is going to be awesome!

We alway use a TA.  We have such a hard time narrowing down where we want to go that they are a great help.  I don’t necessarily think that they save you any money.  From my research they are about the same as booking online.

As for the comment about Sandals giving you a high room, our TA asked Sandals for a high room and we got the lowest room in our category right in front of a giant palm tree.
