regret? no. we toured italy.

sitting on a beach was not our idea of a perfect honeymoon.  i could do that for maybe a day or 2, but i like more adventure and moving around.

Whether you regret having a non-tropical honeymoon or not is purely a matter of personal preference.  We honeymooned in Tofino on Vancouver Island.  It was anything but tropical and we did have rainy days, but being together without the distractions of everyday life was what made it perfect.  Our room had its own hot tub and the hotel was rated one of the best in Canada.  But this was hardly a place where you can sit on the beach and collect rays.

As for the Azores, they sound like a magical place that my husband and I would enjoy, but with an 8 year old I doubt as if she would be very happy there.  A beach vacation sounds like a much better idea when you have kids, so I would suggest you grab the Azores while you can.  Good luck.

You will not regret it! We did a Mediterranean cruise and loved every min of it!  the Azores are beautiful and I think you’ll be very happy with your choice.  Barcelona and the southern coast of Spain is beautiful in May.

Honeymoon can be whatever you want it to be. There are no rules.

nalastardust :  What did you decide on? I’ve enjoyed reading this thread, since we are also “active vacation” type of people and are trying to figure out where to honeymoon in October. All of our vacations together have been hiking in the U.S. national parks out west, except for this past year when we went to Switzerland and did some hiking there as well. We spent two nights in the Lake Como area as well last year, but it wasn’t long enough, so we’ve been thinking about other parts of Italy. Good food and wine are important to us, along with hiking/kayaking opportunities!
