@Rachel631:  My husband is an aircrewman in the Navy. They cannot wear any form of jewelery while they are in the air due to the nature of what they do on the plane. They can wear whatever they’d like as long as they aren’t in the air. He’ll usually wear his ring if they’re grounded for whatever reason or if he’s working his “desk job” that day, but if the plane leaves the ground, no one can wear jewelery.

@Lizabean:  Mine already is! He has a “man-gagement ring” to get him used to wearing one and get in the habit of putting it on every day. It was a cheap tungsten ring I got off Overstock.com so if he lost it I wouldn’t be too upset, but it functions as kind of a training wheel and an outward sign of his commitment.

@LibrarianTellsAll:  Glad we’re not the only ones! I love that he has a man-gagement ring!

My Fiance was really into picking wedding bands out and picked out an amazing ring. I know for sure he will wear it. I always say to him please can we try them on and he always responds if I do I donlt want to take it off plus I want to wait for the big day. He can be a mush I guess haha

He will be wearing a ring most of the time. He can’t always wear one at his job, so he plans on getting a ring tattooed on so when he’s at work (two weeks at a time) he’ll still be wearing a ring. He’ll actually wear the ring when he’s not at work.

Fiance will DEFINITELY be wearing his wedding ring all the time. He wants to and he knows how upset I would be if he didn’t.

Fiance has been wearing a RHR for over 5 years now (claddagh I gave him in college and then upgraded after we got engaged), so I’m quite certain he’ll wear his wedding ring! Not sure if he’ll wear it 24/7 like I wear my e-ring/plan to wear my wedding ring, but as long as he puts it on every morning I’ll be happy!

My bf will wear a wedding ring. Neither of my parents wear rings, but it is important to me.

@Hyperventilate:  That’s interesting. Like I said, British military rules are different, but I wonder if it’s more of a mentality where the powers that be just don’t want to fight staff over these issues in the UK.

Anyway… DH wears a ring despite his job.

@Rachel631:  I think it has more to do with limiting interference but I could be wrong. Husband can’t really talk about it and I’m not interested enough to ask.

However, it is interesting how different two countries militaries are. Maybe you’re right in just not wanting to duke it out. Dunno.

@Hyperventilate:  The military culture is REALLY different… I used to work with US military occasionally, and I found it odd. They are really obedient compared to us. As in… real, unquestioning obedience. And very dependent on equipment. We are taught to be quite free thinking, within set limits, in comparison. We are also taught to fight with minimal kit. For example, during basic then you can only use issue kit. You can’t use extra underwear, nice boots, or warm kit, even if you have messed up feet etc. The idea is that, if you were dumped in the middle of nowhere with only your belt kit, you could survive and fight indefinitely as an independent unit.

Anyway, it would be interesting to discuss the differences some other time! The other thing I always wondered is how you guys survive without an official secrets act.

@Rachel631:  Haha. My husband’s best friend is in the Army, and they commonly duke it out. The Army and the Marines are probably “the worst” when it comes to obedience… my husband goes, “If anyone were to try that shit with The Navy (Specifically his section), they’d get nowhere.”

I might have to take you up on that offer sometime, as to not hijack the thread entirely.

Cheers!

@Lizabean:  My Fiance will be wearing one for the ceremony, but after that he’ll probably only wear it on special occassions.  He works in a lab so it’s not practical for everyday wear.

My husband never takes his off. Sleeps, showers, works, everything with his ring on. I don’t even wear mine to shower or sleep haha

DH told me when we were engaged that he was probably never going to wear his ring because he’s not a jewelry guy/not used to it. We both work in the same profession where we constantly use our hands so I end up rarely wearing mine. I’m ok either way.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t know if my dad has a ring… he was a chef so he never wrote jewelry either. My mom wore one when I was younger but she stopped too because of working in the restaurant.
