@MsJ26:I mentioned this to Mr. Adventure, as I had the same reservations. I will be so upset if I ruin my nails during the darned ceremony! He was saying that you can drill pilot holes, which are larger holes that are drilled in advance that you can place the nail in. They’ll guide the nail and eliminate the need for holding the it while hammering. Pilot holes are usually used to prevent the wood from cracking, or when drilling screws in, but will work perfectly for this too.
Mr. Adventure is pretty keen on the idea of a wine box, and I’m so glad! Although, we may use port instead. 😉

We’re doing this in our home, weeks prior to the wedding. We didn’t want to make it a public thing and I think it will be more special with just the two of us 🙂

@MissAdventure – The pilot holes are a great idea! I told my Fiance and he really likes the idea about the wine box so it is a go! I am glad your Fiance liked it as well. I think it is such a romantic idea 🙂
I have asked my Grandpa if he could make the box for us so it will be that much more special. I am thinking about what else we could put in the box…pictures of us while we were dating/vacations, pictures of our first house and dog..hmmm..My grandma suggested we make a slit in the box so we can put things in the box without opening (i.e. wedding pictures, honeymoon pics…hmm?) Now I gotta find a picture of a wine box…

Oh, another thought — since my father made the box, we asked him to make it so we could nail it shut, however he had a better idea — he simply attached a lock! So smart — simple, easy, and still has the same permanence as nailing it shut. It was way easier than worrying about hauling around a hammer and doing the nailing at the ceremony.

We did it at our wedding! And everyone LOVED it! Literally the crowd went “awwww” after our officiant explained the meaning. All my relatives were talking about how they had never heard of such a thing & they wished they had done it at their own wedding.
And a friend of mine who got married a few months before I did, did a “delayed” version after seeing it at our wedding haha! And wrote letters a few months after they were married and put them in a wine box 🙂

@AnnieAAA – Did you nail the box shut during the ceremony?

@AnnieAAA: thanks for sharing your experience! I really think it would be a crowd pleaser.
I think I’ve convinced Fiance, except that he’s concerned about the wine. We live in Fla., so we may have to buy something to keep the wine the appropriate temperature, so it does not spoil…
