Hello all, im writing from Chiberia (chicago) where it is currently -3 degrees outside. The windchill is something like -30 I think. Either way, Im so over this crap!!!!
I have lived here my whole life and winter doesn’t usually bother me. But we have just been slammed with snow and super super cold temps this year and it’s just really depressing.
Of course my job (government) is open today and tomorrow when everyone else is home or working from home. We rarely close and this is no exception.
Where I park is a good long distance from my building inside our plant. So this morning I was annoyed at this big bus that was in the parking lot because it was blocking the walkway and i had to climb over a mountain of snow to get to the sidewalk. plus I was numb by the time I got to my building. I found out once I was inside that the stupid bus I was cursing was out there to pick up people from the lot and drive them to the buildings so we didn’t have to walk in the cold. fml…. oh well. Im here and i made it.
Is anyone else feeling depressed over this rough winter weather? anyone else dealing with this cold snap?

@stardustintheeyes: SO OVER IT. We’re about 2 hours southeast of you.
I am so sick of shoveling, sliding all over the roads, worrying about the power going out, school delays and not being able to work from home (government peon here, too).
I was talking to some co-workers the other day who agree that the weather is getting to *everyone* Peeople are in bad moods, cranky, crabby and everything just feels like it’s in a funk. My kids are climbing the walls, dying to run around, instead we’re stuck inside and can’t even sled or build a snowman because “exposed skin will get frostbite in 5 minutes” under these awful conditions.
I’m just thankful I have a full tank of gas in my car and a warm place to be at night.
Thinking summery thoughts…

@stardustintheeyes: I feel you! I also have lived in the Midwest my whole life but unlike you I am STILL not used to the cold weather! It turns me into such a bum and I never want to leave the house when it’s freezing and snowing! I am a completely different person in the spring/summer than I am in the winter and I can’t wait to move a little more south where the winters aren’t as treacherous so I can be in a better mood year-round! This winter has been particularly rough and I am so sick of it as well! I live in a private community where the city does not plow and the weather management team has not touched our streets since Saturday morning so driving the mile out of my development this morning was awful. Hopefully the groundhog won’t see his shadow or whatever next week and this will all be over soon!

@btothez: My son is the same way. We all are actually. Snow can be fun when it’s not bitterly cold outside. And when I have to drive in it. There have been some nasty pile ups in northwest indiana (im in chicago but right on the border of indiana) that have been deadly. Last night in some counties just south of mine the roads were shut down and there were a lot of spin outs and stuff. It just all sucks!!! and we are only in the end of january. Chicago winter doesn’t usually end til like late april or even sometimes early may like last year. It was still really cold for it being may already. I know this because my son plays baseball and during the games and practices through june even we were all in jackets and wearing blankets at the games. that’s just ridiculous.

@stardustintheeyes: Even though we are nowhere near as cold here (NY/NJ), it’s still annoying. I am sick of looking like sh!t, having dry itchy skin, getting a runny nose wherever I go, etc.. Also, layers and layers of winter gear? Not flattering on anyone.
Most of all, I’m sick of how the minute there is a blizzard – even if it is a huge blizzard – my job makes it a point to tell us that we have to work no matter what. Ok, one snow day will not bankrupt us. And I’m envious of DH’s job b/c his company shuts down for the smallest snowstorm whereas I am stuck struggling in the snow. Ugh.

Well I’m in Ottawa, Canada and it’s freaking cold here. It’s been this way for weeks now. I am at home with a toddler and a baby and I can’t stick my nose outside at all, it’s very depressing.

HOLY MOLY. I just looked up what -3 was in Celius = -19. Frigging MINUS NINETEEN.
Hope you are all keeping warm in your homes and work 🙁
I complain when it’s +3 Celius here in Wales lol, I guess that I have nothing to complain about really.

@MrsNewDay: my company is an essential government agency. We do water treatment. There are no full days off for us lol. People need clean water all the time so it’s like a big deal when they give nonessential staff the day off for weather. We had one snow day last week I believe or maybe the week before… yea it was the week before. That was a shocker! no such luck this week. All the schools are closed and a lot of other companies are closed too … but not us of course. It’s fine once im here but getting to my job is a big pain! I have to take major highways which is good and bad. Good becuase those are the first to get attention from IDOT and bad because people get too overly confident and cause accidents. chicago driving is treacherous on a good day let alone in bad weather.

@mommytobee: it’s been nonstop snow and severe cold since nye pretty much. And we had some in december as well. But 2014 has been brutal so far with weather.

I hear ya!
I too am in Chiberia (have to use that term more!) and I’ve never liked winter, but this year I have less tolerance than previous years; maybe because December was so bad.
I am babysitting my niece and nephew because my sister and her husband both had to work and the kids want to go outside so bad because they love snow, but I keeping telling them not today.
My car almost didn’t start – and it was in the garage! I’m sick of the mess of the snow too! It just gets everywhere! And every time we shovel the driveway, the stupid snow plow comes by and piles a huge mound of snow on the end! It’s too cold right now to even shovel!
I’m supposed to have an interview tomorrow so I wonder if that’s even still on!
Winter sucks.

@stardustintheeyes: Gotcha. I feel your pain. On days like those (bad driving days), I’m glad I take public transit, but then worry that I’ll be stranded int the city if my bus service gets suspended. :/

@stardustintheeyes: I’m nowhere near where you live and I HATE winter! This year has been particularly horrible with the frigid temps and the snow! I’m ready to bag it and move to the virgin islands. And we still have February to get through! UGH!

@stardustintheeyes: My other nieces and nephews are off school too, so this is the 3rd day this year alone. They had some days off in September because of extreme heat as well, so they’re going to be going to school a lot later than they planned!

@stardustintheeyes: I am more so over the ice. It rained on Friday and was really warm. Then yesterday the wind brought temps down to -30, and so evrything froze over. Not much snow right now, but everything is so slippery. I was crawling across the parking lot, and I still slide sideways because there is nothing to grip to. Luckily I wore my ice cleats with morning or I probably would have slid across the whole lot to get into work.
