Like the link the PP posted shows, try to do some color coordination (within your own outfit and some photos as a couple). So cute boots that match a scarf, or if you’re doing layers instead of a parka, try to make your leggings/pants match your sleeves. I purchased a new green peacoat for a pop of color for our winter engagement shots. I’d recommend layers so that you could easily change up your look without getting too cold (changing your top shirt/sweater/coat/scarf or switching up your boots, throwing on some jeans over leggings, etc). This way you’ll get a variety of outfits/looks with less exposure to the cold. *30 degrees isn’t so terrible, I’m hoping we break 10 sometime in the next week! :-)*

Some darker sweaters/coats will make for great contrast in black and white shots (and it’s so gorgeous when you can see the breath between the couple), and scarves will easily add in some color, as well as a few fun color pieces that you can swap in and out. Have fun, stay warm!

An old friend of mine recently had her wedding photos done with a winter back drop. I actually love the look of white against white. I know they aren’t engagement photos, but you get the concept. I think it all looks really elegant.

Here are also some winter engagement photos I have saved from various photographers. My man and I are also trying to get some inspiration 🙂 I love the yellow coat.

I live in NJ too and I just had my winter engagement shoot last weekend! It was 3 hours in the cold, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! We had so much fun even with our numb toes!  I had two winter coat changes, and wore different Hat/Scarf accessories. Here is the sneak peak of our e-pics:
