Ok first question I’m going to have is – what is your honeymoon budget?  Because what you are explaining sounds really expensive. And next is – how long is your vacation going to be and how long do you want to stay at each location?

First, the islands are beautiful that time of the year – which is why it happens to be their high season.  So, expect to pay the most for any location you go.  However, unless you’re going to Miami or Key West, you’re not going to get a beautiful, warm beach in the US at that time of the year (I guess maybe the West Coast, but that’s a much farther flight and I’m not eve 100% sure Cali would be hot enough for the beach in Dec/Jan).

If you are going to do the islands, you have so many options because they’re all about a 3hr flight from NY.  Some islands are going to be way more expensive (Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, etc.).  If you don’t care which island, I would pick the most cost effective island (look at all inclusives in Punta Cana, DR, as they happen to be very affordable – something like US$250-350/night for 2 people, including all food and beverages and even some activities).  You can even do Cancun, which is about a 3 1/2 hr flight from NY and also has some really nice (and affordable) All Inclusives.  Depending on your budget, you can do some of the out islands in the Bahamas – they’re smaller, quieter, more secluded and the Bahamas has some of the nicest beaches in the world.  Google the out islands and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of info – you can fly there usually from a small plane that leaves Nassau or Miami (so you could technically do a 3-stop honeymoon if you wanted to spend a day or two in one of those other locations – like you could go to Atlantis for a night and then fly out to an out island).

As far as going out in NY for NYE – well, I’m a NYer (born and raised!) and I have NEVER been to Times Square on NYE.  It’s often freezing and you have to pretty much camp out there in advance.  There are TONS and TONS of parties, though – usually about $100+/head to get into a club, so if that’s something you’re interested in, it’s definitely there.  Usually, I spend my NYE on my couch or at a friend’s party, so I can’t really help you there.

Your honeymoon does sound fabulous though – I imagine going to NY for like 3-4 days (really, that’s all you need, imo) and then flying out to a beautiful island for a few days before heading home sounds great.  You will have to pack both winter and summer clothes though, just a reminder!

Good luck!

@PrincessIncognito:  Look up All Inclusives in the dominican republic – specifically Punta Cana.  Use tripadvisor to guide you, that site has never steered me wrong.  Look up Majestic Elegance – it’s a gorgeous AI in the DR that is about $250-350/night for TWO people.  That’s a really good price.  It seems like you should be able to do NY and the islands for $8k, but I’m not sure how much flights will be – flights are anywhere from $300-600/person from NY to the islands.

As far as dinner and a party, I would use yelp.com to look up what has the best reviews.  I would also go see a broadway show while you’re here.

@PrincessIncognito:  Great!  Report back when you’ve booked your honeymoon and let me know what you’ve chosen.

Sorry you haven’t gotten more responses – I think if you title your title “what to do in NY on a NYE honeymoon??” you might get more responses.

@PrincessIncognito:  Mr. W and I spent 5 days in NYC for New Year’s last year – that’s when he proposed!! – so I have tons of things for you to do while you’re there. I would highly, highly recommend staying at The Excelsior -it’s right on Central Park West, in a really, really great location, and it’s a beautiful, clean, historic hotel. We celebrated our engagement at Caffe Storico, which was one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to (and super romantic!), We did a ton of activities – I created a Pinterest board with ideas before we left, so PM me and I can send you a link to that, and send you our itinerary. For NYE, we bought tickets in advance to a swanky hotel party at Hotel Yotel, and it was ~20 blocks from Times Square, so we were able to celebrate the new year at the party but join the crowds of people on the street afterwards. It was really crazy and fun. Anyways, PM me if you want some more info!!

I can’t help with the tropical part as much, because I haven’t spent much time in the Caribbean. But other bees can definitely help out with that, since the Caribbean seems to be the most popular honeymoon destination on the Bee!

We went to the mayan riviera in Mexico and absolutely loved it. We stayed at the grans palladium and have nothing bad to say about it. we spent about $2700 for both of us flying from toronto Canada.

What we loved about the mayan riviera is that it’s the safe part of mexico. Also we loved the food (DR and Cuba have to import all their food and it isn’t as good). We also loved that there were tonnes of amazing excursions to do! The mayan ruins, exploring caves, the jungle, dolphines… toooones of things to do. DR all you have is beach. nothing but beach.

Mexico, cuba and DR are the most affordable places to go. Other islands get pretty pricey. Out of the 3 I think Mexico is the best 🙂

Oh and I would try to book an all inclusive with the flight included out of NY. Fly back to NY and hten catch another flight from there back to the UK. I think that would probably be your most cost effective action. Sites like expedia are great.
