I apologize if there’s been a recent post on this, I tried to look it up and WB just froze and went blank. Do you have any recommendations for the warmest winter coat (for Canadian winters!)? I am stuck between two, one is a little more expensive, one is a brand I’ve never heard of.
Does anyone either have one of these, or have another suggestion?

I’m not a fan of the 3-in-1s. They tend to be heavier and bulkier. Also when we get a really cold snap (-40C) I want to wear a hoodie under a full winter jacket. I find sticking a thick hoodie under the 3-in-1s gets uncomfortable.
I have had a few Columbia jackets in the past and have liked them all. I’ve at least heard of Vertical Limit, but couldn’t tell you anything other than I’ve heard of the brand.

It depends on where in Canada you live. The jacket I might buy for here in Vancouver is likely vastly dfifferent than someone in northern Manitoba might need.
The Columbia jacket is more expensive because the outer shell is “waterproof and breathable”- in other words it is made of Gore-Tex or an equivalent fabric. This is important for warmth and comfort. You will sweat more and feel colder in the cheaper jacket as moisture cannot escape
I am a fan of the 3 in 1 jackets- if you choose a quality product. They are no more bulky than any other jacket and are much more versatile.
