Because of Winter Storm Boreas, we decided to cancel our 15-hour drive home to visit my family in Florida for Thanksgiving. Because of my class schedule, we would have had to leave Wednesday, basically at the very WORST weather and traffic time.
I am SO bummed. I was really, really looking forward to seeing my family–I only get home about 2-3 times per year. We had all sorts of fun activities planned and now they’re all cancelled!
Also, my dress is in Florida, and I was going to have my alterations done while I was down. Now my mom is going to have to ship the dress up to us, and I’m going to have to get the alterations done up here. I’m (1) panicked that the dress is going to get lost in the mail or damaged and (2) totally freaked out that we’re not going to get it done in time. We basically only have like 12 days before we’re going to be heading out of town for Christmas. We can always have them ship it back to Florida if I can’t pick it up myself, but then that doubles the chances of it getting lost or damaged. Plus, how much is it going to cost to keep shipping this big heavy dress back and forth?!
The worst part? It’s my birthday. So for like the 5th year in a row, I’m not going to see any family for my birthday. 🙁 🙁

@howsweetitis: Aw, I’m sorry! But you and Fiance can plan something fun and romantic just for the two of you now. Think of something fun that you’ve always wanted to do and do it! Treat yourself!
About the dress…I’m not sure what to think. You can always get it insured if you want to send it. I think you’ll have enough time but you may want to shop around with different seamstresses. I was in a bit of a time crunch myself and my seamstress did mine in 1 week, including 2 fittings. Best of luck!

@howsweetitis: Aww I am so sorry! I agree… try to make the best from the worst!
Hugs and hope you feel better.
PS: Everything is going to go perfect with your dress, you’ll look beautiful 😉

Aww I’m sorry to hear that. As someone who will be moving out of state and away from family after the wedding, I can really imagine how hard it is to get such limited time with family and then work up the excitement level of seeing them soon and having it not happen. I’d be super sad, too. 🙁 Any chance they can come visit you?

Thanks, you guys. I really appreciate the support. Fiance is being super-nice too–it’s just such a disappointment and stressor!
@Diamond84: Thanks for understanding. I’ll be headed home after Christmas, so I will fortunately be able to see the family then. It stinks because we alternate Thanksgivings and Christmases with our two families, but because our trip got cancelled, I won’t see my family for either holiday!
@AlwaysSunny: In a week?! Wow, that does make me feel a LOT better! Haha, my sweet Fiance was just Googling “emergency wedding dress alterations” for me. 🙂
