wisdomowl :  I would ask for and pay for the full sedation… if it was me.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I was completely knocked out with an IV. But I’ve had a few root canals with just laughing gas and numbing shots and found it bearable.

Only you can judge, but if you are sensitive to pressure, I wouldn’t chance it. When I got mine out, I did all four at once. I only had one that was bothering me, but my oral surgeon said he would take both bottom ones since I’d likely need the second one out eventually. I told him nope, take all four, because I’m never coming back wink  I had a horrible, horrible dentist as a child, and have a real issue with going even for a cleaning. I get laughing gas for cleanings!

Anyway, I got an IV with something…valium maybe??… and it was fabulous. I didn’t remember a thing laughing

wisdomowl :  Are they impacted? I had IV sedation for mine but all 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted.

wisdomowl :  I had mine done (crooked) with shots only and a dentist who felt people heal better/faster without stitches and being asleep.  In the end, it really depends on how the surgery turns out for you as an individual.  I don’t recall pressure being an issue at all, but then again, pressure isn’t a problem for me, so why would I remember 10+ years later?  What I do remember, however, is that one of the shots wore off before he was done and I had to get another – that really sucked/hurt.  Also one of my teeth broke in the process and he had to dig around to find the rest (sorry!), which was also really unpleasant.

Did I heal within a few days?  Yes.  Did I have to hold cotton in my mouth the whole drive home?  Also yes.  Didn’t want dinner either, but I believe I was eating by the next morning.  Still if I had to do it again, I’d probably just get knocked out, even if it did take a full week to feel better.

wisdomowl :  I had mine out just like you are and it was a breeze. I thought the pressure and noise would be bad but it was over very quickly! I brought headphones and listened to music while my Fiance held my hand.

i had one side removed with numbing shots and the other side removed with laughing gas. all 4 were impacted.

i like the numbing shots better.  the pressure or sound didn’t bother me.

i felt really groggy from the laughing gas and didn’t like how i felt overall.
