Not prolonged numbness, I had a kickass dentist who did things awesomely (he did mine two weeks before my sister and I was back to normal within a few days).  Seriously, he actually called me a few days after to check up on me.  I did get dry socket in one of the four areas; which isn’t bad considering all of my teeth were impacted.  The anesthesia was awesome, they hooked an IV up and I don’t remember a thing.  I took advil and was fine, the drugs they gave me afterward made me too nauseous.

I didn’t have a lot of problems with mine, just the usual pain/swelling/etc.  It sounds like maybe they hit the nerve when they were doing yours, I don’t think there is anything that can help that except maybe time.

I had all of mine out at once and had no issues at all!  It was a piece of cake and far easier than labour!

Actually a co-worker of mine has a numb spot on his face from when they took out his teeth.  Apparently they nicked a nerve; I’d get that checked out if I were you!

    Bruised the nerve??

I had all 4 of mine removed by an Army dentist with only local anesthesia (the numbing of the mouth) and he was absolutely amazing.  I was terrified because I’ve heard all of the bad Army dentist jokes, but I’m glad he was the one that did mine.  My wisdom teeth were all visible, there was no need for cutting, so I’m thinking that’s why it went so well.

I really hope you get the feeling back!

Uck I’m terrified.  I hope I can just keep mine forever 🙂

NO WAY would I do it with just my mouth numbed though.  They better knock me out good before attempting anything…

@soon2bhis:  They gave me an IV and seriously, I remember NOTHING, no pain whatsoever.  It was amazing.

Oh my gosh, I’m all scared reading this thread. I desperately need mine out, and will probably be getting them out w/in the next 3-4 months 🙁 I didn’t know they gave you an IV, that will help me big time. Mine have already come through so maybe it won’t be as bad.

I didn’t really have any problem when my wisdom teeth came out.  you may want to go and ask your dentist if this numbness is normal

My only side effects were to the meds – they made me horribly sick. But not to the surgery itself.
