I love that site. You can sign up to have a daily email sent to you with a link so every morning I click click and help some pets.

Also, I am the same way. I would love to volunteer at a shelter but I really don’t have the emotional capacity for it. Seriously, bless the people who are able to see that heartbreak every day.

I KNOW what you mean! I am a subscriber to the ASPCA because I would love to help them all out so badly. I got one of my dogs from the animal shelter. I feel so bad for them everytime I go πŸ™ If I could, I would def. take them all home. I would love to own my own animal facility someday. I want to have one that’s not just the typical “animal shelter.” I don’t like that the animals get thrown into cages on concrete floors, even outside sometimes. I want a place with a Vet on site & a place that each pet can have to their own…air conditioned with their own bed & all. I think pets need serious help & I’d love to be one that makes a difference!!!

Thanks for the link! I’m the same way. When we finally move into a dog-friendly apartment, I told Fiance that he has to go get the dog at the shelter because if I go I’ll either end up in tears or with like 20 dogs.

@Abbee: Exactly!! Pets need a more stable place to stay & I think it’d be a great idea to have a hand sanitizer outside every “cage” so that you wouldn’t necessarily spread germs. It just makes me so mad everytime I go to the shelter!! That’s why I do NOT go look unless and until I want a new dog!

im a huge animal lover!!! i have 3 cats and my Fiance made me promise that i wouldn’t get any more. lol! i volunteered at a no-kill shelter for 4 months and i loved it. i took care of the cat adoption room. cleaned cages and fed them. i did it about 2-3 times a week. since i couldn’t take any of them home i got to spend time with them and cuddle with them! i even took music with me and sang to them while i was with them πŸ™‚ it always made me happy to go in and find out that some of them had been adopted! it made me feel like i had helped out in getting them a better life! i always walked through and said hi to all the dogs every time i went too! one of my cats came from a guy i used to work with who couldn’t keep her anymore, another one came from a shelter and my third one actually came from my back yard. my neighbors and i found him and 2 others as kittens. two of my neighbors kept the other 2. we even make trips to the local shelters just to say hi to the animals and give them some attention.

I know how you feel! I volunteered at a cat shelter throughout college and wanted to take them all home. πŸ™‚

@lees- that would be awesome πŸ™‚ I think the problem is… once you decide to do it and you decide how much money you have, it would be really hard not to just help as many pets as possible. and every perk = less pets you can afford to help. I think thats why so many shelters have the bare minimum because they are trying to maximize the number they can help. They are very sad places though πŸ™ If i’m ever wealthy i’ll give you lots of money to run a doggy spa for homeless pets heh.

There are billboards up on the highways around here advertising for the homeless animals.

There was one awhile back that almost killed me every time I saw it.

It said UGLY in huge letters at the top, and had a pic of a dog sitting on a metal vet table, and it said THIS BEAUTIFUL DOG WILL BE BE EUTHANIZED IN 30 SECONDS.

I bawled the first time I saw it. It’s just not right that people get away with letting their animals go crazy & have tons of babies that end up in shelters or worse. I’m a sucker for animals in the first place & ones locked in animal “jail” with no hope break my heart.

I would also love to run some kind of a no kill animal sanctuary, but that would take a lot of money that I just don’t have. Licensing would probably be a pain too because you’d have to meet so many requirements *sigh*. I wouldn’t know the first thing about doing any of that.

I’d hate to see that! I get those pop up ads about the abused bears who have their teeth taken out so dogs can fight them. I used to be into PETA until my Fiance pointed out it made me too sad. There is the shelter of every kitty’s dreams about an hour away from my house. I don’t have a car but if I did I’d volunteer every weekend. Whenever Fiance and I go north to visit family we stop by for a bit and stop by and socialize with every kitty and every dog. Our love for animals brought us together and I’m SO thankful bc I used to think I was a freak wanting to visit shelters for the heck of it! I’d like to study the effects animals have on humans when I go to grad school. I want like twenty more kitties!
