DEALS are how I ended up with three gowns sitting in my closet that I’m trying to sell.  Now I’m working on buying a 4th dress and hoping it’s the last one (yet again)!

Sometimes I wish I could just plop down hundreds for a real shop gown and not have to go through what I’m going through now.

I’d thought I’d share that side of the coin!

@mspartridge:  Have you considered re-selling it to recoup some of your money?

I am considering buying my Casablanca used, but I am so torn because it is such a gamble.

@sienna76:  Why so many?  Did you buy them online before trying them on in the store first?

@Crazyhair:  There are so few availabe gowns for me to try on in person where I live.

Combine that with the fact that I don’t want to drop $600+ on a gown, and you end up with lots of internet deals that I cannot return (usually final sales from online places DB, JCrew, etc).  I got all of my gowns for under $800 total, but I plan to recoup some costs with selling.  I’d think the price I got it for would attract others as well.

I did buy a real all lace Casablanca in a bridal shop that I tried on, but it’s got a cathedral length train and I have no use for a train really, nor do I want to chop it off.  It was the most expensive of all the gowns, and I can still resell it NWT.  It doesn’t match our little elopement idea either (I had a full wedding planned before but my dad died).  I felt pressured to buy it because it was a one day sale and not many gowns I can try on in person.

I cannot even buy a bra at a store without trying on 30 bras.  So I guess I’m doing the same with gowns, but I have to buy them to try them on! I hope not to buy 30 gowns though.  I am a sucker for a deal.

@sienna76:  Haha!!! I see.  It stinks that you don’t have more options near you.  But I can relate, I just returned two dresses to Nordstroms that were only available online…gah!

@Crazyhair:  It does stink!  If this latest purchase doesn’t work out, one of the other gowns will have to do (not the Casablanca though – it’s too grand).

The Nordstroms ones were returnable?  I also have a moral issue with spending $$$ on a dress for 1/2 a day.  I have the money, but then there’s this moral issue in my head!  LOL

@sienna76:  yep, the Nordstroms dresses I bought online I was able to return in the store (or back to the headquarters..if that’s what you call it) as long as they still had the tags on.  That’s exactly how I feel. We definitely have the money to buy whatever dress I want.  I just don’t see the sense in spending so much on a 1/2 day dress.  When I could spend the money on more important things.  :/

ETA: I just realized that you and I have had this conversation before. hahaha!!

@sienna76:  Omg I did the same exact thing. I am buying dress #4 today (planning on selling 2 out of the 4) for the same reason, online deals, impulsiveness, no way to try it on without purchasing, etc. I hope I can sell the other 2 successfully! 🙂

I knew going in that I for sure did not want to spend too much on my dress. I’d rather use that money for the wedding itself, or the honeymoon. I found my dress for a couple hundred at a thrift store. Wasn’t even looking, but there it was! It called to me from the back of the store as I walked in!

Is there any way you can choose just one dress and have it altered to be your perfect dress? I’m thinking of doing a little something to mine… maybe adding sparkly straps and a corset back. If you got a deal, alterations are worth it 🙂

I bought a used one, not even on purpose.  I just went to a store that had both new and some consignment and really liked it!

In hindsight, I’m super happy I did because buying such a resonably priced dress let me do a ton with alterations and really make it my own – I changed the neckline, added a sash, straps, etc.  It was a way to get a “custom” dress without starting from scratch!
