Mea Ajayi :  Have you really sat down with your husband and explained to him how you feel? It seems like this is important to you. And just an fyi, a popular opinion here at this website is “you already had a wedding” which I disagree with.  I understand that you probably agreed to have a courthouse wedding because you got caught in the moment. But if getting married in a church is really what you desire and believe in, I would try to compromise with him to have an affordable celebration afterwards with friends and family. Doing it on your 5 year mark seems like a good idea as PP have mentioned. My SO is European so I do understand that civil and church ceremonies are two separate things. We will be doing both actually. Do what makes you happy. Life is too short.

Mea Ajayi :  why not have a church blessing at 5 years? So not an actual wedding but still a big celebration that feels like one!

Totally agree with PP’s you did have a real wedding maybe have a party for family and friends for one of your anniversaries? Could even have a wedding cake if you wanted and lots of other things a wedding reception would have
