Hi Bees! I’ve been seeing more and more wish/sky lanterns around. I absolutely love them. Does anyone know rules/laws surrounding setting them off in Pittsburgh? We’ll be getting married at the Union Project in East Liberty. There’s a picture of another couple that let them off there (link below), but the venue didn’t know of any restrictions.
An alternative to letting them fly would be to tie some fishing wire to them and guide them back down as they lose their strength. I’ve been discouraged from that as they are supposed to represent letting your fears/worries go and that would defeat that purpose.
Thoughts? Anyone else release these in Pittsburgh?
Did you know: renting space at Union Project for your wedding, large reception, or performance helps UP under-write…

We share the same date and dream of having wish lanterns! I never even thought about the legality of them… I’m so glad I saw this post.

As far as the alternative, I would really go with that. Those things are terrible for the environment and a danger. If you do it with the wire, then you still get the pretty, but you’re also being responsible and heading off any reprecussions from them 🙂

And as for symbolization. You could try and see it as letting go of your fears and worries while keeping them under control 😛
