I’m hoping that one of the groomsmen, who’s really outgoing and fun, will be willing to play the part of emcee for us. Just announcing what’s happening and keeping people from being confused.

I would say “whoever you want to” There was another thread on here yesterday about having one of the groomsmen MC. Do you have a close friend who would be willing to do it? Short of that, I’ll bet you can hire someone to MC. Check craigslist.

We had an iPod wedding reception (where I spent HOURS loading the songs in to a precise playlist that could run independently) but we dispensed with announcements. When we wanted (cup)cake, we went over and got them, and our guests noticed and crowded around. There was no garter or bouquet toss, and our first dance was the first song after the dinner music stopped. We did a swing dance so it was louder and more upbeat.

If you want announcements then you will have to make sure the venue has a microphone you can rent and ask them to have it ready on your day. You can give your playlist to a friend or family member who wants to be involved and ask them to make announcements at certain song cues. Keep those announced events to a minimum, and close to the beginning of the reception, so your guest can enjoy themselves also. 🙂

I am doing the same thing. I am having a pretty small wedding though (about 75 guests) and I think I am just going to have one of my bridesmaids do the announcing. My sister didn’t have anyone announce at her wedding and things seemed to go well. I am crossing my fingers that it will work out!

Oh, also make sure your iPod (or laptop loaded with your songlist) can jack in to the venue’s amp system and see if they will allow you to check the sound system prior to your date. Our’s did and allowed us to, and we used an historical venue 🙂

We’re having an iPod instead of a DJ (my fiance is a total music control freak) and we’re putting a friend of ours who likes to DJ in charge of the music and probably my fiance’s brother in charge of the microphone.  He’s a total troublemaker so I’m pretty sure it’s a recipe for disaster, but I kind of like those kinds of disasters so it should be fun.
