@LadyLuna771: Aaack, so sorry that happened to you. I know it must have been frustrating and embarrassing. I think sometimes people just blurt things out without thinking. It happened to me and the offender was American:
A few years back, I worked at a university, and I went to the cafeteria for lunch one day. I went to the pizza station to order a slice of cheese pizza, but the woman making the pizzas asked me if I wanted a pepperoni slice instead. I smiled and said “no, thanks, I’m a vegetarian” and she exclaimed (loudly, where other employees and students could hear her) “You ARE?! You don’t LOOK like a vegetarian!”
I thought to myself “Huh? Did she really just say that?” but just smiled and held my head high and walked away with my meatless slice. This woman has always been very nice and friendly, so I think it was just a case of her blurting out without thinking, but still. I’ve always been sensitive about my weight, since I was a little kid. Not gonna lie, it stung. I wish I’d had a better comeback, but I suppose that not flinching and standing confidently was an okay comeback in and of itself. I’ve always heard that confidence can take you far, no matter how you look, so I’m holding onto that!
That said, be confident in the knowledge that you will be gorgeous on your big day! And I agree with a PP, it might not be a bad idea just to let the owner know how those comments can be taken so that she can clue the seamstress in to those hurtful comments.
