Wow.  Just wow.  I try to tell myself that for every horrible person there’s a good person out there too, but sometimes it’s really hard to believe it.

I truly hope the woman who was molested gets the help and recovery she needs!

@KateByDesign:  Articles often skew the facts. So it’s difficult to know the truth of the matter unless you were there. The article claims the man taking the video and another tried to help the woman, I have no evidence of that not being the case.

I’m looking on the bright side here, there is now video evidence of the assault, that means a higher chance of this creep being convicted for it. Too many rapes and assaults go unreported and these sickos walk around free to continue to harm innocent people.

@isabellej18:  There IS!  This is a really, really horrible thing that happened, but there are good people too, even in NYC.  I am proud of my husband for doing something when he encountered a similar situation, and he is not alone in his courage and caring.  There are a lot of good people in this city, and in the world.

@KateByDesign:  It’s not always like that. I saw a girl getting harassed on the train and I was ready to jump up and yell at the guy. But then four huge guys who didn’t even seem to know each other went and harassed the guy off the train. It was badass.

Hey there.

I’m probably the only male POV that will contibute here, but I just want to make a point about this incident.

First off, what happened to her is absolutely deplorable, and should not have happened. The guy who did that should be punished.

Secondly, there a whole issue of touching other people on the subway. This is not as black and white as it seems.

I’ve been the subject of as well as subjected to touching on the subway/bus. It makes the trip more pleasant actually. The issue is whether it is consensual. If the other person objects, then you have to back off. This incident is just an extreme example of someone who cannot control themselves and crossed the line to criminality.

@knightsofcolumbus:  This is a joke, right? If you don’t ASK for consent FIRST, DON’T touch another person deliberately. You don’t start touching someone and then wait to see if they protest. That’s seriously f*ed up.

I think I read a different article, or it has since been updated that the girl woke up and punched the guy molesting her and a few people did try to intervene….am I misreading or was the update false?

@Jijitattoo:  That is not a practical thing to do on the subway. “Excuse me ma’am (sir), may I touch your bum?” How exactly would that work?

Most communication is done non-verbally, and frankly there are some people you find appealing and some you do not find appealing. If you find yourself next to someone you find appealing, I believe some amount of contact is a good thing and makes for a more interesting trip.

This whole concept seems offensive to you, so I won’t tell you of some of the things women (that I found appealing) have done to me on the subway. I think your sensibilities would not allow you to believe this whole topic is acceptable/believable on any level.
