My fiance and I are pretty non-traditional. One example of this: two of my fiance’s “groomsmen” are going to be women. Since he and I are going to have only 3 attendants each, I’m afraid the wedding photos might look a little awkward. My question is: what should the lady groomsmen wear to make sense of it all?
This is what I do know: I will be in a red dress with black accents, and my bridesmaids will be in black with red and white accents. My fiance will be in black with red accents as well. His male groomsman will wear a black and white suit. Should his other two attendants wear black and white suits as well?
While I haven’t asked them, I’m virtually certain that they wouldn’t mind it. One is a lesbian and the other is a kind of a wild punk rocker, both tend to “bend” the gender dress rules. I like the idea of the visual seperation from dresses to suits. But there will be grandparents and other more conservative family members present, and I don’t want to push thing too much. Any ideas?

@redbride:That would be awesome. Or a dress with a cute suit jacket? Black and white?
I agree that they should have a different color.

@redbride:My fiance is having a grooms woman and we’re just having her wear a black dress of her choosing, the tuxes will be black and she’s on that side so it just makes sense to us.

I was a best woman and I wore a dress that was similar to a tux. It had lapels that looked like a jacket for the neck line.

I would just put them in the same thing as the bridesmaids. My brother was a “bridesmaid” and wore the same tux as the groomsmen.

My cousin was just a “groomsmaid” for her brother. This is her in the picture with the groom and groomsmen.
I would just have them match them color wise. So black dresses with white accents. Unless you really want them in suits.

Oh and here is the whole wedding party:
I don’t think it looks awkward at all that she is in a dress because the colors match.

I think it’s a fabulous idea :-). I love that you guys chose your attendants based on how close your relationships are, and not just on gender or numbers!

i love the idea you already have, put them in an awesome fitted suit! if they can rock it, go for it. I would love to see that at a wedding

I was a groomswoman and wore a black dress that I picked out. It helped that all the bridesmaids were also wearing a black dress of their choosing.

I’m hoping to have a guy on my side of the altar, and I’ll have him dressed like the groomsmen.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of having her wear a dress with a fitted jacket over!

Thanks for all the great ideas and photos! I will run them by the groomswomen and we can all decide together
