I wouldn’t do it. I’m non-traditional in a lot of ways but that is not one of them! That being said, I think it’s fine for other women to do it. Also, I think my Fiance would have been pissed/upset if I took that moment from him. It was important to him as a man to have to be able to buy a ring and propose to the woman he loves – one of those things that always signified being a man for him.

I did it, and it was freaking awesome.  My proposal to Fiance was special and romantic and perfectly us, and we’re now very happily engaged.  I feel bad for all the women who feel like their life is on hold because they’re waiting for a boyfriend, with whom they’ve had all the important discussions, and know they’re going to marry, to buy a ring and dream up some proposal.  There’s no need for that anxiety if you already know!

And that is a GREAT article that you posted, btw!

One of my best friends asked her husband to marry her in Italy. Totally them! We didn’t work out that way….I admit I wanted to be asked….but we ask each other will you marry me? now all the time!

I wouldn’t for one reason… because men asking is the “norm,” I feel like if a guy hasn’t asked its because he isn’t ready. So I’d worry that if he hasn’t asked, then he isn’t ready, and my asking would pressure him.

I have no problem with it – I don’t even remember which one of us brought up the marriage discussion first. By the time of the proposal, I definitely wasn’t at all surprised by the idea of marriage itself, only by the planning.

My husband and I agreed that he should do the proposing, for the simple reason that he’s a lot better at planning giant romantic surprises that tell an epic story :-), and he really wanted to do it! The same way he let me make most wedding decisions because I am much better at organization. It’s a division by skill-sets :-).

I would do it. We already have such a “role reversal” anyways.  I work on cars with my dad and do my own car repairs.  It’s funny one day I was doing a tune up on my car and he was inside cleaning the house.   That’s why I love him.

I proposed and it was great!  He was actually relieved!  He wanted to buy me this really expensive ring and I didn’t want all that.  So, me proposing pretty much got him out of that….I bought him a ring and bought my own ring.  ๐Ÿ™‚
