Wondering about how much to buy for the honeymoon?

I only bought one new set of lingerie and 2 new dresses (I didnt own any dresses before and wanted to dress up a little). I already had stuff from previous trips that were suitable for where we were going so I didnt buy much else. We travel alot so I just packed as though I would any other trip. We were pretty short on money around the wedding and honeymoon, but if we could have afforded it I might have bought a few more items.

I guess it depends on where you are going. I am going to HI so a warm climate. I have lots of shorts and tanks already, so I basically have just purchased a new swim suit. I however will be buying some new lingerie.

I didn’t buy anything for our honeymoon. I just took outfits, swimsuits, and lingerie I already owned.

weddinggirl2009 :  Do you have a budget that you want to stick to? We’re going on our belated honeymoon/first anniversary trip next week and I’ve been doing some shopping here and there. I have plenty of bikinis and dresses, but I just wanted some new pieces because this trip is so special. I did buy new lingerie, but I hardly wear it anyways, so I didn’t go overboard. I’d say I’ve spent ~$400 give or take on shoes, dresses, swimwear, etc. over the past couple of months. It was also just my birthday, so I had the extra birthday money to use.

It never occurred to me that people are supposed to buy new clothes for the honeymoon. Maybe a lingerie outfit or two but that’s about it. When I read the thread title, I wondered “how much WHAT to buy?”

Umm. Nothing I don’t think. I’d hate to think I needed ‘props’. If you’d buy something nice for holidays usually whether that’s a dress or underwear or swimsuit or whatever then get something, but you don’t need anything specifically besides normally holiday packing.

Daisy_Mae :  me too! My first thought was food/booze 😉 we went honeymooning in New Zealand and lived and drove around in a camper van for two weeks. I did not buy anything new for the honeymoon! (Although I did buy a few sets of new lingerie for the wedding)

My philosophy for all travel is to not worry about wardrobe. You will never see those people again so who cares if you wear the same outfit more than once. I take clothes appropriate to the climate and our planned activities.

For our honeymoon I bought one new set of lingerie for our wedding night, but I buy matching bras and panties all the time, so no need to buy soley for the honeymoon.

I am going clothes shopping for the honeymoon. We are away for 16 days (bearing in mind it is also a destination wedding 6 days into being away!). So its kind of only 10 days honeymoon.

I am buying 2 new sets of lingerie (I already have a new corset that I haven’t worn for a nice eveningor two).

I am also getting some new essentials but from places such as Primark, Tesco/Sainsburys, H&M etc, so nothing really fancy. Its time in 3 italian cities so I want some nice strappy tops/ shorts/skirts and pretty walking sandals. We are going swimming on one day in a lake but I am just using my normal swimsuit.

I bought one new set of lingerie, a new swimsuit, and a pair of bride flip flops for the beach.

I also got these fun socks for the flight there:

This might sound odd.. but hear me out!  I’d buy a new perfume and only use it during the honeymoon. Then set it aside until your anniversary. After some time has passed and you smell it again, it’ll remind you of your wedding and honeymoon. You could wear it on anniversaries or special days when you need a pick me up. I do this for special life events or really unique vacations.

anyone else have scents connected with memories? You could also get a new cologne for your FI!

nifer317 :  I also have special perfumes for special occasions and am currently trying out some new scents to select one for the wedding.

My wedding and honeymoon won’t be until next year, so I haven’t begun making any special honeymoon purchases yet, but I am certain that I will. I love traveling and while I know all the packing light tips, and saving money and room to buy once you get there, and that it doesn’t matter what you wear because you will likely never see these people again, that just isn’t me. I always buy new outfits and shoes for trips, but I tend to shop a lot anyway, so that isn’t unusual for me.

weddinggirl2009 :  Depends on where you’re heading.  We went to the Cook Islands and I just bought dresses and beach coverups to bring with me.  That’s all you really need in a destination like that 🙂
