I think you did good considering it is a designer ring, a designer cut diamond, and a great quality diamond (4cs). Plus you got a promotion and sounds like your husband was a good negotiator. I would strongly suggest you don’t give this a second though so that you don’t damper your enjoyment of a beautiful gift, or damper your husbands joy at giving you something so thoughtful and gorgeous. Give that man a big hug, kiss and thank you.

Can I also say that even though colour, size and clarity are pretty much standardised, cut is much more hit and miss than people think. Diamonds are like kaleidoscopes – a tiny change in cut angle makes a big difference to appearance. My ideal cut round diamond will look very different from another person’s ideal cut round diamond because the facet pattern and sparkle pattern are very different – even though they are the same clarity, colour, size and certification. The effect is even more marked with fancy shapes such as cushions where there is no designated ideal cut.. I would go as far as saying that I would not buy a sizeable fancy shape online unless the online company would be prepared to send me several stones to look at so that I could choose the prettiest.
Your husband has done the right thing. Enjoy your sparkly.
