@alyssa.christine1:  I think everyone wants bigger (some dont admit it) I have a 1.02ct princess (just upgraded from a 0.55ct) and I am currently saving to have a small halo around it because I think it is too small!!!! Do you have a pic of the ring? Front view? I saw a previous post with it side view and I cant really tell

I doubt many people are getting married that young now days. My friends that did generally had 1/3-1/2 ct solitaires with plain bands and those still married got a diamond anniversary band later in life. I think most getting married that young tend to be pregnant and focused on babies more than bling

@blingbling:  omg dont you watch Say yes to the Dress Atlanta? There are early 20s brides a plenty on there….none are preg but they are all Southern and I find they get married alot earlier then the rest of the country. Not knocking Southern Belles just have noticed that the marryin age is way earlier there because they are mostly tighter knit communities and the men they are marryin are someone they grew up with as a best friend and that was the next step in their relationship

@blingbling – Uh, no. We are not even having children. We are young and engaged.

My ring isn’t particularly big and I love it! It’s dainty and beautiful. I wouldn’t want anything ‘more’ than that.

Woah im not saying people don’t get married young just for the sake of love, nor did I say all are pregnant! The statistics show the average age for marriage has risen sharply for the last 10 years because people are more focused on education and tend to “wait for love”. The census and other official records are my basis not cheesy television shows centered around  the shallow and brainless. The average 18-19 yr old is not rocking large bling due to finances period. there is a HUGE financial difference between being in your early 20’s which potentially means college grad vs being sub 21.  That has nothing to do with “judgement” it just is what it is. Everyones situation is different

I go by location, not age, for averages (: In my area (rural Ontario) most people’s rings are under .5 ct and from a chain store like Charm or Peoples. I don’t really think it has to do with age, it has to do with what is the ‘norm’ in my area.

IMO, .81 ct would be big to people for someone under 21 (it’s even big in a lot of areas for someone older than that). I mean, that’s quite a lot of ‘rock’ for someone to afford at that age 😉 People probably just don’t expect it and so that’s their first reaction.

I was almost 21 when we got engaged (21 now) and my centre stone is 1.25 ct with .25ct worth of sidestones and people said the same stuff to me (: I think it was just unexpected age-wise.

I don’t think there is an average ring gize for somone under 21, but I think in general they will most likely be smaller stones. There tends to be a fairly large finacial difference in someone under 21 and someone in their late 20’s. FWIW, my ring is much larger than that of most of my friends. Out of my group, most have center stones .5 or smaller. Fiance and I have been together the longest out of our group, but most of them got engaged/married pretty much right after college (21/22/23) and obviously weren’t as financially secure as we are 27/30.
