@EmmyGirl:  When my SO was saying “soon” a lot I snapped at him and said “You must mean soon relative to the heat death of the universe because you’ve been saying that for 2 months now” (or something along those lines, “heat death of the universe” was definitely used). We went ring shopping pretty soon after that incident. 😉

@batwoman:  LOL. If mine had said it more than once I definitely would have come up with a snappy response for him. In Jan I got “really soon” and two weeks ago I got “just be patient.” Which… I don’t even really know how to interpret that one.

I agree with everyone else…Boyfriend/Girlfriend is my number one!!

Just a funny side note, showing that I am not the only one who sees the problem with bf/gf…..

My SO is a police officer and I was joking around with him a few months ago about what I would do if I ever got pulled over.  I asked him how would I go about dropping into the conversation that my BOYFRIEND was a Police Officer.  He told me that I should tell the officer that my Fiancé or Husband is a Police Officer because that sounded much better, more permanant.  INSERT GLARING LOOK HERE!!  He looked at my face, thought about it and a had a huge grin on his face and said….OK OK OK….don’t even say it!!  SO I finally know that after almost 10 years, he gets what I’ve been saying!!

I hate boyfriend and girlfriend – unless you are in high school!

I call my SO ‘partner’ – but even this is getting very old, very old.

Totally hate “boyfriend” too. My Boyfriend or Best Friend loves to talk about forever and sometimes, when he’s trying to be sweet, he’ll tell me he wants to be my “boyfriend forever” which sounds soooooo awful.

I’m tired of “so when are you going to get married?”

“When’s the wedding?”

and anything that has to do with relationship advice that comes from married couples who have been together less time than us.

Really fricking annoying.

Friend…a few months ago his darling mother introduced me as his friend. Ughhhh! She really is a darling lady, but I shuddered and my eyes bulged. Fortunately he said “She’s my girlfriend, mom!” Haha sounds so silly coming from a 40 year old man!

When? I get sick of people asking WHEN??

But my friend was going out with his gf for ten years before they got married

or

my sister had kids before she was married

I gently point out to my bf I am neither his sister or his friend, I am me and I intend to live my own life!

“you’re young”

“enjoy life”

“wait”

“later”

“better”

essentially any word that suggests I would make an irresponsible decision for my future child, or that reminds me I have to wait so long because I am making good choices for my future child.

@beeeforeigocrazy:  I don’t even told my boss that I have a boyfriend. Like, “who cares, everybody has boyfriend/girlfriend”.. it is not professional IMO. MY Boyfriend or Best Friend thinks I should tell, and I tell him you better get my ring soon, then I can introduce you!

@E_Rigby:  OMG, my Boyfriend or Best Friend mom was doing this to me for months… I felt humiliated. It sucks not be be treated seriously. Now after Boyfriend or Best Friend talked with her she is intro me correclty, but I still fear she might call me friend by mistake and I’d loose it then.

@victoria86:  totally! Like, if you say to your boss “I need to leave early because my girlfriend’s parents are in town” that doesn’t fly, but if you say to your boss “I need to leave early because my WIFE’S parents are in town” that does. Girlfriends are second class citizens! 🙁 lol
