Long story, but my DH was told his company covered $160 a month for health insurance, and the company rate for an individual is $148, so it would be at no cost to him. Well, he got his first paycheck today, and somehow $60 was deducted from it for insurance. Not really sure why, but he doesn’t need this insurance anyway, because he’s on mine. We were just thinking “Well, if it’s free, why not?” So now, can he cancel at any time, or does it have to be in an open enrollment period? Ugh…

Usually you need a “change of life event” to alter insurance. So since you recently got married it shouldn’t be a problem.

I think you can cancel anytime but to add or change, then you need a life event. It will depend on your insurance. It doesn’t hurt for your DH to be double covered, in fact, mythe company’s could be cheaper or non existent!

You can cancel anytime, and as long as he is already on your plan it shouldn’t have any effect. If he decided he wanted back on his company’s insurance after cancelling though (which sounds unlikely), he would have to wait for an open enrollment period.
