I’m in the same boat as you are.  I’ll (unfortunately) be going back to work as soon as possible, probably around the 3 month mark, as well.  I do not have children now, so this is our first and trying to figure out a routine has me a bit scared.

Right now, I can get ready in under 30 minutes and get out the door.  (I also work SUPER early).  I leave the house by 5:50am to be at work by 6:20.  The thought of getting up earlier than 5:15 sounds awful.

Luckily for me, my Darling Husband doesn’t start work until 8, and my mom is going to be watching our little coconut when I go back to work.  She’s already stated that she’d like to watch him/her at OUR house, as she thinks it will be easier for the baby (at least in the beginning), and for me (so I don’t have to lug everything back and forth in the morning).

So….Long story short, I’m hoping and praying that my routine doesn’t change TOOOOOO drastically, but in reality, I don’t know how likely that is.

When I first went back to work after having my daughter, we had a nanny, which was really nice.  I’d get up around 6:30, the nanny would get to the house around 7:00-7:15, and I’d be out the door by 7:30.  Dirty Delete got to sleep in as late as she wanted, since she didn’t have to leave the house; the nanny just got her ready once she got up in the morning.

When we switched to daycare, it was a bit harder.  I’d have to get up a little earlier and wake Dirty Delete up by 7:00 so we could leave the house by 7:30.  Luckily, our daycare isn’t much out of the way from work, so the whole drop-off only added about an extra 10 minutes to my regular commute.

It’s changed a bit. When I first went back to work, my husband was home with the baby for about 4 months. I normally woke up between 5 and 5:30 pre baby, and left the house around 6 am. So, if she woke up after 4 am, I would usually go ahead and get up with her, settle her down and put her back to sleep, then get ready for work. This way husband got to rest a little longer and I could spend time with her.

Once we started daycare, I would get her up and get her ready and we still left the house around 6 (daycare is right on the way). I would usually get ready for work, pack my lunch, pack her daycare bag, then wake her up about ten minutes before 6, change her diaper quick, then load her into the car. She would have her first bottle at daycare.

For awhile she was sleeping until I would wake her up. Now though she has been waking up anywhere from 4:45 to 5:30. Sometimes if she wakes up at 4:45 she will go back to sleep and I can finish my morning routine. Sometimes she is up for the day at 4:45. This morning she went back to sleep, but yesterday she stayed up. I had to throw my hair in a ponytail, and brush my teeth quick while she was distracted playing with cookie monster. I put her in her high chair with a bottle while I packed my lunch and I ate breakfast at work. It is hectic trying to get ready while entertaining and watching a mobile 11 month old, but it is nice to get a little extra time with her.
