What do you fellow fitness bees do to combat being bored when you work out? I get rediculously bored when working out, whether it be walking outside, on a treadmill, going to the gym, or doing workout videos.
I have tons of music on my phone. I can’t get a workout buddy because I have to squeeze things in when I can, and it’s different every day (5:30 am, 8 pm, somewhere in between, etc…).
I’ve been doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (and am already really bored of the same dialogue, etc). I’ve tried playing music over it. Workout videos are hard to squeeze in, though, because I have two dogs who either howl at the door if I close it, or if I let them in they jump with me on movements or lick my face if I’m doing cruches, hehe. They’re funny, but it’s really hard to do anything.
But really: how do you combat the boredom?? I really wish I loved to workout (my brother does, and I’m so jealous!).

One thing I have been doing when riding a bike (at gym) or walking on treadmill or eliptical is watch Netflix or Hulu or Youtube on my phone. That’s the only thing that keeps me going. Instead of watching my show on sofa, I watch on treadmill.
Other than that I have no clue and I would love to see what other Bees suggest.

I do different things every day. I may do a YouTube yoga workout at home one day, then I will go to the gym and go through my cardio and weights workout, then I will go for a bike ride the next day, etc. I try to do a lot of hiking too with awesome views and that helps defeat the boredom. To be honest I really don’t like working out. I like how I feel afterward, I like how my body feels, and I like getting stronger. But the actual process? Blah.
I do sometimes plan my workouts around my favorite shows. Like, I LOVE Fixer Upper, so I will go to the gym when that is on. That motivates me to keep going throughout my cardio.

I listen to podcasts or audiobooks when I walk or run outsidde. I also make it a point to try out new trails or walk in different neighborhoods. If all else fails I’ll call my mom or dad to catch up during a long walk lol.
I also have a stationery bike that I use while watching TV. I won’t let myself watch my favorite TV show unless I bike for at least a half an hour while watching it.
I know some people do tons of different activities to keep them from being bored but for me it’s all about the distractions.

I read. I have a great book holder and I typically do the elliptical at the gym. I can’t just listen to music or watch TV. The elliptical and the stair mill don’t really require too much bouncing so for me it’s easy to read! I also buy used hardcovers where the font is large and easier to see.

Good ideas! I got two audiobooks from the library; I’ll see how those go tomorrow!
Sadly, I’m pretty limited on where I can walk outside, and there’s not really any really scenic things near me. But! I’ll try some other videos (I’ve been trying to stay true to Jillian Michaels because I wanted to see what actual results I’d get, but a sore elbow and some other things may make me stray!), and the audio books while I walk. Maybe I’ll even forgot I’m walking!.

I usually try something new like pole dance or barre. If you’re in a city you can even do this relatively cheaply by taking up all of the studios on any into offers they have haha

ddnroosmomma: this is why I CrossFit. sifferent workout every day and it’s in a class setting, so there’s no boredom.

Beegritte: I would love if something like that was available near me.
I like the audio books! Though I still have to fight to get a good amount of time in, and get a good pace up. But I don’t allow myself to listen to it at any other point, so it’s sort of my ‘reward’ for exercising. Gonna try some BeFit videos soon, too, if I can find time!
Thanks for the suggestions, bees!

I hate working out…which is why I finally found something I love — aerial silks! It just feels like playing, but it really works your whole body and can help you get in great shape!

me and Darling Husband were getting bored with our workouts so we recently started doing the workouts from the Nike training club app and they’ve really ramped it up! It kills me, but I enjoy doing them with him!

ddnroosmomma: Try going to a real class vs videos. I LOVE working out but workout videos are boring as hell and I never do them.
I really enjoy yoga classes, High intensity interval training ( you will be too tired to be bored, lol) and cross fit. I never get bored doing a class witha trainer telling me what to do and motivating me. I also play soccer on a team and that is a lot of fun, maybe look into some sports leagues in your area.
I dont like to workout alone so a group setting is very motivaing for me, do you have anything like crossfit or orange theory by you? Does your gym offer group classes?

Intervals! I hated going on the treadmill, seemed like it would never end 🙁 Now I do 5 minute warmup, 1 minute sprint, 30 sec rest, 1 minute sprint etc. for another 15 minutes. Makes treadmill time seem a lot quicker. After intervals I focus on a body part, then back on the treadmill for 5 minutes of intervals, then a different body part so my heart rate is always pretty high

ddnroosmomma: I’m going to start my free trial of Fit Body Boot Camp cardio classes for this exact reason…they are only 30 minutes, are in a class environment, and sessions are different. I’m pretty sure they’re all over the states. I’ll report back.

I used to be a runner. 60 minutes daily, but I’m going through this phase where I HATE music, lol. Listening to it does not pump me up and I can’t run without SOMETHING going on.
Audiobooks saved my life. They’re expensive, but SO worth it. It makes my run fun!
I also try to get “sneaky” workouts in. When I want a coffee (I drink it black so 0 calories) I WALK to Tim Horton’s which a good 15 minuite hike each way. I also walk to the grocery store when I have minimal things to carry back.
My SIL lives about 25 minutes away and we visit them regularly. Fiance drives over I walk, lol.
