So I have this post here about losing weight after saying yes to being a bridesmaid at the end of December. However, my husband and I have set a goal to start TTC this coming summer (10 months from now) and I have to get in shape before that time. There are no excuses, health is health, and I will not bring a child into this world without being in good phyical shape first.
My husband is being really supportive and wants to do workout together at home at night. We really don’t have the schedule to fit in gym visits together, so we’re going to take advantage of what we have around us. Some days we’re going to take advantage of the 2 mile walking trail at our local park, but I’m also looking for videos that we can do it at home if we get home super late and need to squeeze it in.
I have access to iTunes and can hook it up to my TV with external speakers to get great quality. I have a huge open area in the living room that I can use to workout. Now I just need to know what kind of workout videos I should be looking for on iTunes. Ideally the video would be between 30-60 minutes, and I’m looking a few that I can mix and match between. If there is nothing available on iTunes, can anyone point me in the direction of fat burning DVDs to buy on Amazon? The key is that I need the videos to be fat burning at this point.

@star_dust: Hey! I LOVE workout DVDs. I am not sure what’s available on iTunes, but I do get all my DVDs from Amazon. For fat-burning workouts you probably want more cardio workouts, although strength-training is super good for you too. My favorite is the TurboJam workouts. They are cardio kickboxing and range from 20-50 minutes. I also use weighted gloves to up the calorie burn and also get a good arm workout. For me they go by super fast because I enjoy them. They also have an abs workout and weight-lifting workout. YouTube has some good trailers for them if you are not familiar with TurboJam. Good for you for making weight loss goals! I have weight loss goals too and it really helps to stick with working out when you enjoy it. I have about 40 DVDs so I will try and look through them and come back and post other good ones that are fat burners.

I pretty much love anything by Jillian Michaels. Her most popular one is 30 day shred, but I actually really like her kickboxing workout. They are 20 minute workouts, so great if you are crunched for time!

Hey! me and a girlfriend do DVD work outs 5 days a week.
We have a variety of the Jillian Michaels DVD’s and love them. Her work outs are short and complete and are a great way to get in shape and lose weight (if you’re also eating healthy).
Ripped in 30 (fav)
30 Day Shred (fav)
Yoga Meltdown (haven’t tried this yet)
No More Trouble Zones
and I know we have a couple more but I can’t remember what they’re called! I’ll check and update when I get home. 🙂
They’re also inexpensive too. Less than 10$

Whoa guys I just finished my first time doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It was SO unbelievably hard in some parts but I enjoyed a lot of the moves, as well. It was almost the same (except with added intensity) as what I did the summer I worked out with a family friend who is a personal trainer.
So what would you guys suggest.. doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for actually 30 days (give or take a few missed days here and there for weekends) or to swtich it up and do 30 Day Shred a few times, Ripped in 30, Yoga Meltdown, etc. in a rotation?
At first I thought I would like to switch it up a little, but after doing the video I’m thinking if I can actually stick to this one video for 30 days maybe the payoff will be better? Hope I could do it, my body is still shaking..!! Just gotta stick with it, I know the feeling will pass…
Well anyway guys, thanks ALL of you for the great video tip offs and let me know what you think.
P.S. My husband was the one who originally suggested working out together, then when we reviewed the moves before doing it, he called the 30 Day Shred “girly,” but then proceeded to collapse on the floor during the cool down and didn’t move for 20 minutes. Jillian Michaels, 1, Hubby, 0. Haha.

I just started doing 30 day shred… Holy Cannoli my legs and arms are burning. This will be my third day in a row and right now I switch between level 1 and 2 since they each have different components. I woke up this morning with my thighs on fire! Definitely a keeper and i’m doing it in conjunction with a pilates video i have to do a little extra lengthening and core work.

@.twist.: Agreed, Jillian Michael’s workouts are super hard and effective. Way to go, OP! I have 30 Day Shred too and it is HARD! I get bored easily so I always switch stuff out. Here is a sample of my weekly workouts.
Mon:30 minutes TurboJam, 10 mins abs.
Tue: Power yoga, at least 30 mins. I love JM’s yoga meltdown. Not very yoga-y, but super effective.
Wed: TurboJam 45 mins.
Thur: Weight training of some kind. I love all of the CoreFusion DVDs too…less cardio, but such a great workout and super short too.
Fri: Rest. And usually gobble a bit more too! Let’s be honest here.
Sat and Sun vary, usually just something short.
Acacia makes great workout DVDs. Search for them on Amazon. My latest fav from them is Weight Loss Pilates.
Also love Weight Loss Cardio Sculpt which is 30-min interval training.
As you see, I am all about intense workouts that are as short as possible! Keep it up! I am sure you are doing amazing!

Update: My diet has been going amazing! In the past, I’ve cut out fruit (a la the South Beach diet) but now I’m not eating carbs or starches and all that jazz, but I am eating fruits and I see a huge difference when I have that little boost from some natural sugar. Being able to eat a Chobani yogurt at lunch keeps me so full I never would have guessed. So as far as the eating part, I am doing fantastic and feel great not eating carbs and starches!
As far as the workout, my husband and I have done the 30 Day Shred for 3 days now and it’s been going great. Unfortunately, last night I was reaching to take some water out of the fridge and trying to prevent a beer bottle from falling out, when a beer bottle I didn’t notice on the other side of the shelf went crashing down onto my foot. I actually thought my foot was broken for a while, but thankfully it’s just bruised up and really swollen. So that’s put me off my work out for a few days. Plus given me a wonderful little anecdote for people.
But no worries, that’s life, and just because an obstacle gets put in the way doesn’t mean it has to hinder me. Thanks for all the support bees!

Update: after one full week doing the Shred and seriously watching what i eat… (ie: no white starches, no pasta, no alcohol… salads, salads, salads) i’ve lost 3lbs and 1.5 inches from my waist and hips and 1 inch from my chest. … i’m going to start next week doing level 1 and 2 together 4 days a week and level 2 and a 8 min pilates video 3 days a week.
