I get way more compliments on my sapphire ring than I think I ever would with a diamond. It’s different, and people notice it for that reason.

Sapphire engagement rings are very popular in the UK because the Royal Family uses them. If anything, they carry prestige because they are associated with royalty. Sapphires are very valuable as precious stones in their own right. A truly good quality sapphire could cost much more than an average diamond.
