Looking for some help or opinions or personal experience or information.
I’m 10 weeks along, I’ve been taking progesterone suppositories since 4 weeks, due to 2 prior (recent) miscarriages.
My Doctor said I could stop taking the progesterone at 12 weeks. But that makes me a little nervous since I think that the progesterone is what has helped this one stick.
Has anyone else gone off it at 12 weeks?
I haven’t talked to my Doctor about it yet. Is is even safe to stay on longer or for the whole pregnancy?

I was also worried about this – I was out on progesterone at around 6 weeks. My doctor told me to stop at 10 weeks, but I was extremely nervous so I stopped around 11 weeks instead. I actually kinda tapered off of it – instead of taking it everyday and finishing that way, I did the suppositories every other day for the last week, then finished. I had no issues whatsoever, and I am now almost 19 weeks.
I know it’s nerve racking, but I would trust your doc. There definitely is no need to be on the progesterone once you get to a certain point, because the placenta takes over, so it wouldn’t matter anymore if you were to continue to take the progesterone.
I would talk to your doc, though and express your concerns to help ease your mind. 🙂

I started at 4.5 weeks and stopped at 12 weeks with no issues at all. I’m 24 weeks now and doing fine! Ask your doc about staying on longer or tapering instead of stopping cold turkey. It’ll give you piece of mind. I think I remember reading something about pregnancy hormones changing at the begining of the second trimester and progesterone being less important (the change also makes morning sickness ease) but don’t quote me:)

I am on progesterone also and I am 4 weeks today. I am terrified of stopping cold turkey at 12 weeks. I will have to make a plan with my doctor to taper off.
You ladies give me hope though!

Thanks, I like the tapering off idea

I also suggest tapering off for peace of mind. I was on progesterone with my DD due to a previous miscarriage and low progesterone. SHe told me I could stop at the end of my 12th week, but I was so nervous. I still had enough to use for three more weeks and I did. It can’t hurt to continue using it, if only for your peace of mind :0)

i was on it as well from the day i ovulated until 13w. my doctors made sure to tell me to wait thru week 12, but i also tapered off myself off. at the end i was on the vaginal suppositories 2x a day. when week 12 i started i went once a day for two weeks and stopped at 14. i still have some in the fridge left (because i had to buy a new batch 2 days before week 12) over but just havent used them since. im 20w now and things are great! good luck mamas! & congrats!
