Active bee gone anon here. I am really worried and stressed about a possible pregnancy. I have been on birth control pills since April 2012, and I have been taking them pretty regularly, around the same time (Plus or minus a few hours) every night.
I started my period on Nov 30 and had my period for the full week after, all throught exams (so I was stressed). I started my pills on Friday Dec 7, but I forgot to take my pill on Saturday Dec 8. I realized that I had missed on midnight Sunday Dec 9 (the time i usually take my pills) so I took Saturday’s pill then. I took Sunday’s pill the next morning at 8, and then I was back on schedule taking my pills. Fiance and I avoided having sex until Friday Dec 14, but the problem is, we had sex on Saturday Dec 8 (because I didn’t expect to forget!). I am getting really anxious. I think I am tricking my body into thinking that I am pregnant. I am really scared. Does anyone have any advice? Could I be pregnant? Or do you think I got lucky and the birth control was still in my system? I didn’t get incredibly horny like I did when I ovulated before birthcontrol, so I am thinking I didn’t O, but I am not sure. I am so anxious about this. Wedding is in 5 months and both sides of family are crazy traditional and would flip out if we are pregnant, Also, I still have several years of college to go.
Sorry if some of this is Too Much Information

@needsreassurance: November 30 was the beginning of your cycle. So December 8 would be Cycle Day 9, yeah?
You are most likely safe, even if you weren’t on the pill.
Not many people ovulate that soon… and while some semen CAN live up to five days inside you, that’s only some and only if conditions are ideal (fertile cervical fluid and stuff).
Edit to add: Especially if you’ve been on birth control for a while. It can take up to and sometimes longer than a month to even start ovulating after stopping the pill.

@needsreassurance: Here’s some info from Planned Parenthood http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/birth-control-pill-4228.htm
If it was in the middle of your pack (day 3-21) and only one missed pill, your odds of pregnancy are so small that PP doesn’t even recommend using backup protection after the missed pill.
You can take a pregnancy test during your inactive week, but it seems pretty unlikely that you’d actually be pregnant.

@rosworms: Before BC, I was on 6-8 week cycles. I would ovulate at about week 3-4 (I think).

@msfahrenheit: I missed the second pill, which is why I am so worried…

@needsreassurance: Oh I see, but it doesn’t look like you actually missed 2 pills right? You missed one and then took the extra one at 8am the next day. So really it’s not as bad as being 48 hrs without taking it. Even so, PP still says that unless you totally miss 3 or more pills in a pack, you should be okay.
ETA: For future reference, even though your on BC, you can still use Plan B to prevent pregnancy. So if you miss a pill again but have already had unprotected sex, you can get Plan B as soon as possible to avoid worrying about any possibility of pregnancy.

I think you are okay and wouldn’t stress so much about it. I missed four pills in a row at the beginning of October just after my period and did not end up pregnant. The fact that you realized you missed the one pill right away and took the second one the next morning means that you are probably covered. Now of course it’s not 100% guaranteed that you are protected. But I would say it’s very unlikely that you are pregnant.

@needsreassurance: Other bees help me out, I am super confused about how OP is taking her pills.
I know you can do a “Sunday Start” but I take my first pill of the pack the first day of my period. Then I have an alarm set on my cell phone so that I take each pill at 4:15pm each day, that can vary a few minute but my doctor said I don’t want to be much later than an hour.
Last time I forgot a pill I took the Plan B Pill just in case, and nothing came of it. IMO there’s nothing you can really do at that point but wait to be in an appropriate time frame when you can take a pregnancy test.

I thought that there was no point taking Plan B if you already are on the pill because all it is is a high dose of BC pill. Unless you miss several in a row, I don’t believe it’s necessary.
OP, you are fine. Even if you miss 2 pills, BC pill manufacturers say you don’t NEED back up protection, it’s really only if you miss more than a couple. I’ve missed a pill and taken it the next day many times before with no accidental pregnancies. Not that you should do that often but it is extremely unlikely you are pregnant.

Make sure you read the informational packet that comes with your pills. For one missed pill, mine says take it as soon as you remember you missed it and continue on with your normal schedule. If that’s true for your pills, I think you should have taken your missed pill with the regularly scheduled pill instead of waiting until morning. The first pills in the pack are the most important ones.
That being said, I don’t think it will make a difference — you’re probably fine.

you’ll be fine most likely. I’d be quite shocked if you got pregnant.

I think you will be okay.

I really don’t know if this is the place to address that issue. Most of us on the TTC boards are obsessing over how to get pregnant. A better place for topics like this would be in the Pregnancy forum. Please be respectful to those of us who are working our tails off to get pregnant.
