I am sure its just the lighting! I see the whole area where the satin and the lace at the top hit! I like it! I love the Back of it, the detail is amazing! I also think when you get the dress altered and the sizing correct it will lay and fit you perfectly! Its your day, don’t second guess yourself! Everyone is different.
I look at the MERMAID styles and the RUFFLES and say they are too “TRENDY” but everyone loves them, I did but none of them ended up being “THE ONE”, I looked at the pics and felt that I would be over the TREND in a few years.

So, before you even look at the picture, excuse the horrible editing. I spent like, 30 seconds doing this. But I was thinking your dress would be gorgeous with a strapless sweetheart neckline. I do think all the different details kind of make it seem a bit dated, but to just change the straps, I think, makes a huge difference.
(Again, I realize my clone stamping is not pretty, haha. Try to squint.)

I MUCH prefer the strapless sweetheart neckline! That looks awesome!

actually that does open up your neckline a bit more and is flattering 🙂 I think its better than the halter as well 🙂

that looks great, I agree its a great improvement.

OOh I think it looks great without the straps too!

What a pretty dress! The train is glorious. It doesn’t look too small either to me – quite a perfect fit. Generally, I prefer dresses that are not strapless. Strapless seems to be the norm these days, but that doesn’t mean that if you wear something with straps or sleeves then your dress is dated. The edited sweetheart neckline is attractive, but, like me, it looks like you might have a bust that needs the extra support and coverage of the halter style. Don’t try and second guess your choice too much. Do you feel pretty in it? The answer to that is the only opinion that counts 🙂

I don’t think it’s dated, it’s just a little different (but in a good way :)). Just because you’re not following all of the trends doesn’t mean your dress is dated at all. I think once it’s been altered and it’s the right size at the top, the transition from the lace to the bottom will be much smoother. I love that train, too!

I think you look beautiful in your dress and not dated at all! However, I also love the photoshop edit with the sweetheart neckline <3

The only part I find dated about it is the separated look of the top and the skirt – but I agree withe meliss that you look good in the dress and if you love the dress that is all that matters! No one at your wedding will think any differently!

The train is really pretty on your dress! I do LOVE the change to a strapless sweetheart neckline!

I think it’s a traditional dress – not dated!

I don’t necessarily think your dress looks dated but the straps aren’t flattering-they add nothing to the dress and everything just kind of looks squished. I think a sweetheart neckline would be a great option.

What flamingred mentioned was sort of what I was talking about earlier. I think once everything is fitted properly, though, you’re going to get the more streamlined look and things won’t be squished.
I would try not to worry and wait for the dress to come in. If you don’t like it once it’s fitted (and I think you will!), you can always add a sweetheart neckline, since that modernizes everything.
