So recently I began my search for a makeup artist and hairstylist for my wedding day. I wanted someone who could come to my location, and who has a good amount of experience doing makeup and hair for weddings. I thought that at 7 months out, I’d have plenty of time to nail down a makeup artist and hair stylist!
I found someone and had a trial, but I wasn’t satisfied at all. I continued my search, but am realizing now that I may have waited too long, and that many makeup artists and almost every hair stylist I contact are now booked. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to do this, but honestly, I didn’t realize I was so behind!! I know I’ll figure this out, but I’m feeling a bit panicky right now.
I’m just worried that this will happen with other aspects of planning. For example: I still need to figure out transportation. I just thought I would wait to see how many people I would need transportation for (we’re providing a bus or something to take guests from the hotel to the venue). But if I wait to see how many people are going to RSVP that they’re attending, then there won’t be much time left, and probably all of the transportation companies will be booked!
I think I’m just super overwhelmed right now. Is anyone else feeling this way? Is this normal?
PS–when did you book your transportation?!?

I don’t know about transportation because I didn’t book any, but I think it’s crazy that at 7 months out everyone is booked. I had a 4 month engagement and got an unbelievably amazing makeup artist (who also did my hair, but that was a last minute adjustment). You will find someone, don’t worry!

If it’s true that you’re located in Philadelphia I can definitely believe that many artists are already booked. It happens it the major metro areas but I’m surprised for you too at 7 months out. But the good thing is cities have TONS of talented artists so don’t give up!

We booked our limos (18 person stretch SUV and an 8 person limo) 4-ish months out, and our weekend is a wedding weekend AND a prom weekend, so they were more expensive, but still plenty to go around!

You definitely did not wait too long to book someone to do your hair and make-up. However, you may have to go to the salon rather than having the professionals come to you.
My stepdaughter lives in your city, and I had to find someone there to do my hair (I did my own make-up), and I went to a woman who was highly recommended and she did a fantastic job of using a flat iron to create the loose curls for my updo. I think by the time my DSD’s friend recommended this stylist, we were only a couple of months out from the wedding
Keep in mind, I was stepmother of the bride and NOT the bride, so you certainly could ask for a more bridal look:
I can PM you the contact info if you would like.
As for transportation, you should be fine. The only month that seems to be terrible for brides to try to book transportation is the month in which I was married: May, due to all of the business the companies do for proms. I had a dreadful time just trying to get a regular limo (I originally wanted a white Rolls Royce) for my wedding.

@star_dust: @kaw2be: Thank you both so much, you’re making me feel much better. I guess it’s just one of those days…
@BrandNewBride: I was thinking of calling around soon, just to get some ideas. But it makes me feel better knowing you booked around 4 months. Thank you!
@Brielle: Your hair looks wonderful in that picture! If you wouldn’t mind sending me the info via PM, that would be great. Thanks so much!!

Try not to worry! If I was able to plan my whole wedding in about 5 months in NYC on a fall, October holiday weekend, anyone can do it! And it was probably closer to 4.5 months since I was a bit slow about getting started and then i started to worry just like you! But it all worked out fine! I booked my hairstylist about 6 weeks before and my transport 3 mo before. I literally hired my DOC 2 weeks before the wedding and she was AMAZING. And they good thing about living in a big city is that there are lots of other people to chose from!
