Hello all
My hair is about not quite shoulder length at it’s longest point it just barely touches my collar bone. It also use to be an iverted bob, I guess it still is it has just grown out. But the hair in the back is a good bit shorter than the long hair in the front in the back it just covers right to the base of my neck.
Well I said all that to say this, my wedding is in 81 days!!! EEEK (so excited) and I am worried about my updo. I am getting it trimmed regularly to help it grow faster and I have not had my trial run yet so maybe this is all a premature worry but the bottom line is I am only having a full updo. Nothing else will do I hate the half up look as well as the oh just fix my hair down pretty. (just not for me) I am getting worried that there won’t be much that can be done with my hair length..
Any other ladies out there who have hair of a similar length/style who have already had a trial run or the wedding with a full updo? How did it go I’d love to see pics!
*EDIT* Can we please over look the fact that I get my hair trimmed to help it grow. It’s not something I do frequently in fact plenty of people probably do it way more often that I do. It really has nothing to do with my question. Prehaps I am a damn fool for thinking it works, but I’ve been living with my hair my whole life, you’ve been living with yours.
I posted this hoping to see some lovely updos on ladies with medium length hair instead I’ve been schooled in hair science..sigh..sometimes I miss the waiting boards..

I have long hair but one of my BMs had pretty short hair that sounds just like yours! I don’t have any photos but the hairstylist pinned it in a way that looked like an updo, even though it wasn’t really. Ask your hairstylist to see what she can do! Otherwise, you could always get a clip-in extension or something along those lines.

Are you worried that your hair wont be long enough for the updo? They can always add extensions, thats what I did for mine wedding since my hair is quite as long as I needed for the updo I wanted

I’m not really in the same situation hair wise but I think you need to stop trimming your hair: It won’t make it grow faster & you’re jest losing length! Hair grows about 1/2inch a month so you’ll have an extra inch or two by the time your wedding rolls around, depending on how fast it grows/your hair texture. Most hairstylists know how to cheat a look with a lot of hair so I think you probably have enough hair from what you describe. What kind of updo do you want?

Your hair could grow one to two inches before the wedding if you stop getting trims (unless you are prone to split ends you don’t need to get trims that frequently while you’re growing it out). I think it’ll be plenty long for an updo, depending on the style you go with (a chignon yes, a topknot will probably not work).

@MrsRugbee: trimming my hair does help it grow faster. my hair will stop growing after about 2months from the last cut once i get it trimmed it starts again, in fact just got the first trim since december about a month ago and have gained a lot of length since then. Whereas before it hadn’t progressed much at all.
I don’t get it trimmed constantly I will probably get one more trim before the wedding.

I know it does not make much scientific sence but i’ve been living with this hair for my whole life and that is how it functions.

@ames12708: People tend to think that but in fact hair grows in cycles regardless of how much or little you cut it. Your roots, which produce the hair folicle have no sensory method to know whether you cut your hair or not since your hair is dead. It’s likely the change in weather that’s affecting your hair growth.
I only cut my hair once a year (if that!) & it grows consistently.

@MrsRugbee: this really has nothing to do with my post. and again i say reguardless of season or eating habits or vitamins or birth control or coloring or even that perm i got in high school my hair stalls out and will not grow again till i get it cut.
I have got as much as a year without growth until i get it cut i highly doubt my hair growing cycles are that inconsistent

Maybe something like this?? Her hair looks kinda short

I was in the Navy and every yr we had the Corpsman Ball(med field) and my hair wasnt that long but a good hair stylist can make it appear fuller and longer:) My lady always did a great job. I went to her for over 4 yrs.

You can always add clip in extensions to give you more length to work with.

You can see how short mine was, and it was a miracle she was able to get i up like she did (as MOB).
